"You've gotten quiet...have I made you upset?"

A wooden sign hung out into the cobble street of the market reads "Ateia's Intricacies" burned into the dusty brown grain. Inside is modest, though the pieces on display are far from simple. Chimes and ornaments dangle from the wooden beams supporting the shop, and with the sun shining through the facets, rainbows dance throughout the room. A skydancer steps from behind a curtain leading into the depth of her shop, her eyes magnified from the thick lenses of her spectacles. It's quite surprising, though she quickly pushes them up on her forehead to reveal kind and far more normal sized eyes.

"Pardon my delay, I didn't hear you come in," Her voice is soft, similar to the sound of breeze through tall grass. "Can I help you find anything?" She folds her hands in front of herself, fiddling with her fingers as she looks down at the display counter. A quiet clinking follows her, the sound of a work in progress draped over her arm helps to fill the brief silence to fall over the room. Stepping closer she motions down to the display, starting to the left and sweeping her arm to the right.

"They're displayed as the most affordable to the more expensive pieces, though I also do repairs and custom designs," She returns her hand to fiddle with her other, once again causing the gems to softly chime together. Instead of hovering she steps away from the counter, rearranging necklaces on mannequins behind her. There's a vast array of examples, and each is displayed on a different model. Her touch on the artwork is tender, as if the gems could shatter beneath her fingers.

"Mum?" A small voice croaked from behind the protection of a stuffed toy. It was silent, only the creaking of her house above her filled the silence. The crawl space she was hidden in was cold, the chill of earthen floor beneath her seeped through the blanket she had wrapped around her shoulders. She swallowed back the sobs that made her throat ache, her mother had told her to be brave and no matter what to stay tucked in the back corner of her hiding spot.

But that had been so long ago. She had done as her mother had asked but the longer she sat in the quiet dark, the more the shadows in the corners reached out to her. The little girl tucked her face behind her valiant protector with buttons for eyes and yarn for hair, clutching the toy tightly to her chest. The deafening sounds from outside would be welcome compared to the dark silence enveloping her.

Her mother had lowered her into the empty space beneath their kitchen forever ago, she had promised she would come back as she smiled away the tears shimmering in her eyes. With a kiss to her forehead before she closed the door, she told the young girl how much she loved her and how strong she needed to be. Then she had heard the heavy movement of furniture, and the sound of the front door slamming closed. She had promised. She would never break her promise.

So bright...

Sunshine poured into the hole she had found familiarity in. She shielded her eyes with her hands as movement above her caused her to scoot into the furthest corner. The sound of sniffing had her heart hammering in her chest, with the clack of claws on the floorboard above circling her until it found it's way to the open trapdoor. Thump. Whatever it was had joined her in the crawl space. She trembled, though she couldn't resist sneaking a peak at the creature between her fingers. She was met with a pair of warm brown eyes, a wet nose, and a wagging tail. A Hainu wearing a red vest reading 'Rescue' on the side.

The War of neighbouring kingdoms had spilled into the farmlands, and many happy families had paid the price. When Ateia was found, she was a pitiful sight; covered in dirt, skinny with dark circles under her eyes. Though she was one of the luckier survivors found amidst the rubble of houses, since physically she was unscathed. She was taken great care of, and the days following she was provided a foster family to look after her. As a child, she waited for the day her mother would find her like she promised, though with age, the understanding of what happened faded her hopes.

As an adult, Ateia takes her craft very seriously despite her shy nature. Even the most minuscule of gemstones are turned into wonderful works of art with her diligent talons. Even ones with blemishes are transformed into beautiful wind chimes. She enjoys making all sorts of jewellery, especially smaller, more intricate pieces.

Being introverted, she prefers the company of her gemstones than the presence of other dragons. When entering her shop, she is soft-spoken when greeting customers, and if she wasn’t heard the first time, she rarely repeats herself unless it's important. She would much rather listen than speak, however, and because of this, she is a great listener.

Ateia doesn’t do much outside of making jewellery, so she doesn’t have other hobbies. If she’s not working on her craft, she’s either pacing through her wind chimes or listening to others play music. She cannot stand complete silence, as it makes her think of the days spent in isolated silence. Even though she prefers gentle music to ease her worries, listening to nature is a suitable substitute for it.
