Biography
The Misguided Guardian
Faces swimming in my vision on the edge of my premonition A divide between you and I I love you, I lost you... why did you have to die? |
Cataclysm
"I wish I understood why you did it... No, I guess that's a lie. I know why you did it, I just wish I felt the same..." A small figure. Hard to notice surrounded by dragons bigger and stronger than him. His attitude is strange - overly conscious. As if planning each and every step before he moves his paw. Eyes ever fixated downward gives him an air of sorrow. Cataclysm is described as a 'romantic soul' - the kind whom you are convinced is pondering romantic and philosophical questions he doesn't want to share. The kind who makes you just a little depressed to hang out with. He has a self-defeating, pessimistic view, a sort of 'why bother when nothing's going to change?' attitude that makes you wonder why he even gets up in the morning. And that brings us to Cataclysm's job - he is a Summoner that protects his kingdom from malicious spirits. The glowing tome at his side contains monsters he's trapped within it's pages. Only a few of the monsters sealed within his book of magic are willing and able to do his bidding, since most spirits are malicious or incapable of understanding human speech - letting them loose would just send them rampaging again. |

One of the more prominent "monsters" he's trapped is his own wife, Tragedy. Cataclysm often wonders if it would ever be possible to return her spirit to her body... and if it isn't, perhaps destroying her tether, and letting her go to heaven would be the more merciful thing to do? His relationship with his wife's spirit is a strange one. She seems to have little, if any, comprehension of the material world, and doesn't listen to anything anyone says, aside from Cataclysm himself, and Vacant. Cataclysm politely asks her to keep up patrol of the kingdom, and lead away malicious spirits from their encampments. If the spirit isn't tricked by her Will o the Wisp like ploys, she comes to Cataclysm to warn him, after which Cataclysm seals the spirit in his book. |

◄Backstory►
Though he doesn't speak of her much, Brandish is Catalysm's older sister, and the two of them used to live with their family in the bitter winds of the Snowsquall Tundra, in the center of Ice Flight territory.
Brandish was the eldest of the siblings, with intense responsibility put on her shoulders. As soon as she was old enough she went looking for a job to help out her parents, and being the massive, well built Sky Dancer that she is, fortune found her at once, in the form of being a soldier.
Her job required her to leave home, of course, but with one less mouth to feed, and the steady stream of extra income Brandish mailed to her parents, you'd think things would be starting to look better at last.
But life never goes quite the way you expect - Cataclysm's father, died on the job working as a hunter.
Their mother, who was always a stoic and rigid woman, began to raise Cataclysm to be the man of the house in his father and Brandish's absence. Which meant Cataclysm, at the tender age of eight, was forced to look for a job, study, and take care of his siblings all at once - and in all areas, he must excel, otherwise his mother would lock him in his room without super.
It comes as no surprise to say that Cataclysm grew sick of this. He was terrified of his mother, and tired of his siblings. Somewhere in his heart he blamed everything on Brandish.
One day, when talking with Tragedy - one of his only friends - and learning that she was in an even worse situation than him, with two alcoholic, neglecting parents, they decided to run away together.
And so they did - on one night, they stole away with no regrets, never looking back.
It wasn't romantic. They lived on the streets - they starved, they were beaten, assaulted, robbed, and suffered from illnesses. They lived like that for years, suffering in inequity and being dragged down to the sinful lifestyle of those they lived amongst, stooping to robbery, shoplifting, and even prostitution.
At one point, years later, Tragedy steals money from a slaver gang and she and Cataclysm flee to the Caravan Kingdom to escape.
Cataclysm reunites with Brandish there - a quiet matter, subdued and soft. Cataclysm can't seem to help his feelings of resentment, and Brandish her guilt of abandoning them.
Cataclysm sometimes wonders what happened to his younger siblings, but he's never asked, and Brandish has never brought it up.
Later, when Tragedy is killed and turned into a spirit, Cataclysm's resentment grows even stronger, and he can't help but wonder how his wife got killed while she was supposed to be under Brandish's protection.

Spirits’ Dance
ten nine eight
Night is nearing, dawn will wait
six five four
Close your eyes and see no more
four three two
Spirits come and dance and do
Moldy mushroom, briar bramble
Fox will call, and crow will ramble
one two three
Wispy laughter, fallen tree
four five six
Writhing now as glassy streaks
seven eight nine
Spirit dancing; dark, divine
Moldy mushroom, briar bramble
Spirits dance, and forests tremble
