Biography

They saw nothing wrong with their nest; the nest looked fine and the eggs inside healthy as could be. Frost and Winter had placed arcane crystals laced with delicate frost around the rotting rim as an ode to their own flights; a prayer and reminder of their original deities. Winter smiled as the first few eggs hatched after a few gentle rocks; her large paw gentle as she wiped away the mess on her shimmering hatchlings. Frost was the one to notice the last egg having issues. The egg oozing unlike the others and taking a tad too long to break open. Concerned, the Tundra used a careful claw and helped the little one inside to pierce the egg, slime bursting from the slice.

The slime is thick and nasty on his paws and strange in excess. His mate's mouth twists further in concern as their other small hatchling's paws are slowing being covered by the concoction. The Guardian lifts them onto her tail and waits for Winter to finish cleaning off their daughter. His soft paws brush the excess on the last hatchling's face, but instead of a triangular Guardian or rounded Tundra; he finds something soft, squishy, with slight give. His last daughter's face is covered in pockets of liquid, pustules consuming the hatchling's face.

Both parents scream.

A horrible start for a hatchling whose parents weren't from her Mother's lands. Neither expected a child like her and they are distant, though they refuse to abandon her as some native Plague clans might. She doesn't recognize her own loneliness as a few Plagueborn clanmates care for her where her parents don't seem to in their judging, blood-red eyes. Her parents begin to teach her ice magic in an attempt to help Hypothermia 'stabilize' and begins to offend their clanmates. Her ice is laced in disease; any touch to the crystal infecting the dragon unfortunate enough to brush it.

It scares her parents, so Hypothermia tries harder to not infect her ice, to be a good hatchling. Tries to make them proud of her. She's never sure if it works or not.

Her first birthday is confusing and enlightening in the same measure. Her parent's gift her something that makes her ice stronger and more precise. It makes her leave frost wherever she steps and constantly covers her fur in permafrost like dust. If you cut yourself on any ice she's left behind, you'll get all manner of nasty infections. Her clan protests the gift, claiming it offends the Plaguebringer, who's claimed the child as her own and blessed Hypothermia and her family. Some claim it's a blessing; her ice laced with Plague's strength and want to send her away to the south. It's the first time she hears what some of her clanmates think of her, what their guests had called her when she wasn't listening.

Ugly. Cursed. Disgusting. She finally understood the noses scrunched up, eyes averted or widened with indiscernible emotions, grimaces, or the ones who darted off and she heard retching. It's suddenly hammered into her that she was horrific to look at, her visage what made her parents scared of her. She feels tears behind the maze and miasma that spreads as a permanent infection, the stain on her face. She tries to blink them away before they make an unholy mixture as they mix with the disgusting mass over her 'eyes' and make even more dragons hate her.

Hypothermia flees, ignores the calls after her, the horrid mixture dripping into her fur from her ugly face.

There, out in the Wastes, alone and sobbing, she meets Monticello. The first drake to not flinch from her at first sight. Her voice sounds like winds over the Icefields, mournful and low, as she sobs. Her skin under her fur warm as if feverish when his paw brushes away the disgusting tears. His voice is soft and kind as he asks what's wrong as if he doesn't care, didn't even notice her nasty, ugly, disgusting visage.

It makes her cry even harder.

He takes her to the Fortress, wing and tail over her shoulder for comfort, and petitions the First for a home and they grant it without thought. None of them react to her face. They allow Hypothermia to travel the Fortress and she keeps to the southernmost regions, closest to her parents' wishes as she dares. She rules the Southern Corridors as Gaolers do the Icefields.
Monticello often visits her and they talk for hours. He is her closest friend.

Years later, as she visits Haloke in the Library, she learns that she is extremely similar to creatures named Ultimate Encephs, the scroll delicate in her paws. Many of them exhibit strange traits not seen in their breed, like how Hypothermia has an excess of fur in either season. She has seen dragons, terrified and bumping into her as they flee the First, calm as her frost dusts them and assisting in their capture. Just like their own strange auras. Korze had always liked Hypothermia when he was sane but feared her when not.
