Biography
Paradox always stood out, that was a given. As a hatchling, he ran around with glowing yellow wings, enjoying the sun beaming down on his face as he chased field mice through the swaying grass. He always loved the sun, the way it greeted him whenever he woke up, warming up his body from a prior cold night. He always took his time to pray to the Lightweaver, thanking her for her blessings and fighting off the Shade, or so the legend goes. His parents, both wise and forgiving, taught him many lessons, but the one that stood out the most was to be very wary of The Hewn City, and avoid it at all costs. "Do not even glance at it," Paradox remembers his father telling him with a stern voice "For there are dragons and monsters in there we dare not speak of." He always respected his parents' wishes, for he knew that they only wanted the best from him, until one day... Paradox had spent the day as usual, enjoying the sun and fishing for his clan. The crayfish were tricky to catch this season; and tired from his labours, he laid down on a soft patch of grass under a towering tree, and took a nap. When he awoke, the sun was gone. Everything around him looked grey with the lack of light. He blearily stood up, stretching and yawned, and then he saw it. The Shade... was moving. |
The pitch black shadows twisted and turned, like smoke. Paradox had never seen anything like it, and he felt his body moving without him telling it, the inky smoke grabbing him like hands and pulling him closer. Then he blacked out. When he came to, his brain felt foggy and three sizes too big. He tried to move, but felt a searing pain in his left side. He tried his best to see what he was tied up in. It couldn't be... bramble? But that meant- His thought was cut off by a a pair of glowing red eyes walking closer to him. He squirmed, trying to free himself from the tight bounds, but they only got tighter, the barbs sinking in deeper to his flesh. "Didn't your father tell you to avoid the Shade?" A rich voice spoke to him "For there are dragons and monsters in there we dare not speak of." It mimicked his father's voice, sending shiver's down his spine. And then Paradox knew. "Please... Let me go I didn't-" he spoke, tears welling in his eyes "You'll have to ask HER, not us" a wispy voice murmured in his ear, from what only could be a fae. He closed his eyes, praying to the Lightweaver, apologising for everything he could've possibly done wrong; even the extra piece of fish he took at dinner seven days ago. His thoughts were caught off by a .. chant? The two dragons(?) were singing an incantation, in a language he couldn't understand, and he felt a sludge flowing over his body, slowly rising up to his face, engulfing him. As he felt this toxic substance fill his mouth and nose, he saw the owner of the red eyes, a dark pearlcatcher grinning from ear to ear. "The Shadowbinder welcomes you to the Shade." was the last thing Paradox heard before blacking out. |
