...I’ll tell you what I can, Constable.
She was a regular customer, kept on coming over to buy familiars. The first one died, then she bought a Needletooth. I thought she still had it when she purchased the Light Sprite.
She came back after that. She...told me she’d been feeding them to other things. Using them as bait. Chopping them up, mixing them into other familiars’ feed.
She wanted a refund, said the Light Sprite was a dud. Just because its legs were tiny! Well, she claimed she’d baited a toridae with it, or maybe she was just trying to scam me so she could get her gems back. Who knows?
But no return, no refunds. I said we wouldn’t sell to her anymore, either. I guess I made her mad.
She showed up again, maybe three months later. She stood outside the shop, and she started to sing....Creepiest stuff I ever heard.
The familiars, well...You know what happened next. They went absolutely wild, biting and gnashing, bursting out of their cages. I got away before they got loose. They ran to her; they clustered on her like she was a tree, and they held on as she lumbered out of town.
—No, sir, I’m not staying here any longer. As far as I know, she’s still out there. You didn’t see those familiars. They all had murder in their eyes while she was singing. And now they all belong to her.
And judging by her stories, sir, really...they’ll eat anything.
