Biography

QheQby.png Lore Sunwalkers are guardians that have stood vigil over the Mirrorlight and the Beacon for generations. Sunwalkers are so called because they are most active around the summer equinox and the Brightshine, when the Light is at its brightest and longest. No one is quite sure why. They are distinguished, ancient, and dedicated to the preservation of the monuments and locales they Guard and call home. They are regarded as virtuoso, scholars and warriors.

Likes: Sunwalkers are aging and old guardians, their lives extended through their own natural magic and their connection to Light. Sunwalkers spend so much of their time in an immobile vigil that a layer of fine dust from the ruins they call home appears to slowly petrify and encase the Sunwalker. Whatever colors they may have been are long hidden from view, and if it causes discomfort or pain they show no sign. With their might they easily crack and break seams in this fine stone skin to allow for movement. In rare cases, a Sunwalker will completely petrify with the right combination of the dragon's natural magic and time. These Sunwalkers take on the appearance of living, polished stone, and their thin wing membranes often appear like stained glass.

Career: Sunwalkers, in many ways, serve as a manner of protection to the scholars who explore the Charges they protect, though a stray pick or tool makes for a very grumpy Sunwalker. They ensure there are no trespassers or heathen looters in their territory, and on a larger scale in the ongoing battle for dominance serve as first line of defense. They often become intimately familiar with the area inhabit, making them great guides, scholars and observers of the local area. Need directions? Ask a Sunwalker. Want some local history? Ask a Sunwalker. Need an escort? Ask a Sunwalker.

During the Brightshine Jubilee, Sunwalkers deliberate during the festival, passing their knowledge on to both the young and the old. Telling stories from the past, things they've seen and heard, meanings of timeworn etchings in the ruins they oversee and showing others their crafts for all to enjoy.

Personality: Removed from the hustle and bustle of busy archives and settlements, Sunwalkers tend to be creatures of simple tastes. They often have hobbies and crafts tied somehow to their area - such as a love of food or art for places near trade roads with access to supplies; pressing leaves and collecting seashells washed ashore near their homes. Their dedication to these crafts attracts dragons the world over, who seek to both study and witness their virtuoso talent.

Sunwalkers are typically patient, gentle, and noble souls. They appreciate history and have a keen appreciation of their time in it. It is an unintentional habit for them to recall long winded events and anecdotes, sometimes testing the endurance of the most attentive listener. When the Charge they protect is threatened they have an explosive, hair-trigger temper and an unrelenting nerve. They are patient, cunning, tireless and have been known to hold a grudge.

Combat: There are rumors among the lesser races that in the ruins of Mirrorlight there are unseen terrors ready to prey on the unwary and the greedy. Elegant, decorated statues or rugged, crumbling hillsides that burst to life in a thunderous crack of breaking stone that leave little chance for escape with their tireless and surprisingly swift pursuit. Unbeknownst to them, they didn’t spring an ancient trap, they were set upon by a Sunwalker.

Sunwalkers typically prefer to use ambush tactics, allowing their targets come into terrifying proximity before striking and overwhelming their targets with their immense size, strength and surprising speed. In open combat, Sunwalkers are large and in charge, unafraid to use their size and strength to charge, cleave and cow their opponents in no particular order. Petrified Sunwalkers (those presenting crystal and/or facet genes) tend to have a bit more magical ability than a typical Sunwalker and instead may prefer to use their amplified latent talent to deadly results.

Diet: Guardians, as a rule, aren’t picky about what they choose to eat to fuel their enormous size and Sunwalkers are no exception. Having lived for so long they’ve been exposed to many cuisines and foods by their travels and visitors, they may have developed a favored food unique to them or their locale. All Sunwalkers, however, love fine, well-prepared food and such offerings are generally well-received.
