Biography
"Yes, of course. We will take them in."
Nestled in the Shrieking Wilds of the Viridian Labyrinth is a generally peaceful clan who, collectively, refer to themselves as Akoma. It was a simple chance meeting that united the Clan of Cosmic Lightning with these dragons. Roc happened upon the clan with her son Betelgeuse while charting stars in the middle of a moonless night. The nature dragons were kind enough to offer a place to rest for the night to regain their energy for the morning. While Roc was perusing her starmap, Betel left his mother and he wandered into the thick underbrush. Something was calling him, and he was curious to see just what it was. Nimbly trekking the uneven earth beneath him, Betel soon arrived upon a clearing with the most beautiful view of the stars and sky. Something up there, just out of his reach, it pulled at him in a way nothing ever had before. When Roc found the child she smiled almost sadly as she pulled him into an embrace. She explained that his father was once a Guardian and that almost all their children have a desire to protect something above all else, a charge to call their own. Betelgeuse's charge happened to be the stars in the sky above the Viridian Labyrinth. And The next morning Roc was left to return home alone, for their child had grown up. That was the last Roc and Sinbad expected to hear from their son. One day far in the future, the masters of the Stardust Rails received word from Akoma that something was wrong with their son, something dangerous. The two clans had become allies over time, sharing resources and knowledge with each other. Betelgeuse had gone into pining, a terrible affliction that was only supposed to affect guardians with non-traditional charges. Dragons in pining could not grasp the full magnitude of their charge long enough for their hearts to be satisfied and as a result, they would slowly waste away. This left Liliea, Betelgeuse's mate, to tend for their nest by her lonesome. Akoma reached out to Roc and Sinbad in hopes that they could save the nest that bore their grandchildren. Of course the dragons agreed, and through the Stardust Rails Liliea and Sinbad met halfway. With one final farewell to her child, the exhausted mother left a dying egg in the hands of Siduvronti. Icarus and Lotus, already nursing an egg at the time, were happy to adopt the child into their nest in hopes of saving them. For several days the egg wouldn't retain any heat in the unforgiving chill of the Southern Icefield, it was far too cold for a child of the Gladekeeper to survive. Lotus was growing distraught over the egg's health, she simply had to save it. The warriors were forced to seek out the assistance of Tohru; the hatchling caretaker borne of the Flamecaller's heat. Immediately the unlikely pair of Wildclaw, Pearlcatcher, and Coatl Saved four eggs from the freezing winter. Perhaps, in the spring, they could all finally hatch. |
On that accursed day, each of the four eggs hatched away from the watchful eyes of the three parents. The plagueling and wind chime were born first, the last two to join the nest in the winter. They had been saved by other adults in the clan away from the nest, leaving the Shadow and Nature eggs alone to fend for themselves. The egg that nearly perished back in the Viridian Labyrinth finally began to shake and shudder with exertion. First came a tail before tiny claws dug their way out of the shell. There were no parents to coo and caress the newborn Pearlcatcher, however it did not need such things. Upon locking eyes with the unhatched shadow egg, the fluffy hatchling wrapped itself around the object protectively. And he did not move when the mountain was breached. Instead his star-blessed hide began to shimmer, and he remained with eyes glued to the egg. The massive creature with its writhing heads had passed the nesting grounds, crushing all the untended eggs with a mighty stomp. The Pearlcatcher curled tighter around his egg charge, not even shedding a tear at the sight of dozens of his family members perishing before they could even hatch. For if he wanted to survive, he was to remain silent until the beast passed. And pass it did. The nameless hatchling only perked up, releasing his protective barrier when the first signs of his sibling egg began to shake. Quickly, the dragon's little claws began to pick at the hard casing in attempt to assist with the hatch. Soon, right when the baby would first poke their head out, he was going to take them to safety. it was his duty as the older brother and deep inside him, he knew by instinct just where to go. He finally began cooing and squeaking to try and entice his sibling to break out faster, there wasn't much time left before the beast would return. But then he heard another voice. "Arcadia!!! Arcadia dear we have to get out as fast as possible." That was Tohru's voice, he'd recognized her voice among a sea of din while inside his egg. The Coatl snatched the Pearlcatcher up instantly and began fleeing the nesting grounds. Arcadia immediately began squirming and crying. "S!!!SIS!!! SIS, TER!!" He had to return to his sister, or she would die without his protection or a parent. "No, honey... Please come with me. We have to get to safety before it returns. Where are the others?!" By the time they escaped the treacherous cavern leading to the center of Neverest, Lotus had caught up with Tohru and Arcadia clutching a bundle against her chest. Arcadia wriggled out of Tohru's hatchling harness. "SI-sis!!! SIS!" And he finally stopped fighting Tohru's tight embrace. She was safe... his sister was ok after all. Overcome with relief, the Pearlcatcher closed his eyes to pray for the safety of his other siblings who he knew were alive. He could sense the connection they shared, even so far apart. It would all be okay when morning breaks the sky. |

* Arcadia keeps the activities and events of the clan recorded as accurately as possible and is almost constantly writing due to his hypergraphia. He maintains and manages Siduvronti's underwater library when not by his sister Zinnia's side. He is very protective of his siblings * While blessed by the stars much like his sister, Arcadia cannot control the Stardust Rails as she can. However, he has the peculiar ability to set up powerful barriers to protect allies. * He keeps a document on all terminology used by the clan. {x} |
