Biography

Vanguard
Speaker of Tongues
—–
*this dragon is singing something incomprehensible*
—–
Touched by the Windsinger directly, Vanguard is the Snowsquall Clan's interpreter, though employing his talents has certain complications. The magic that flows through him grants him the gift of understanding nearly any sapient creature's language. However, he is incapable of differentiating between languages, and his own natural speech is a jumble of mismatched words that make no sense to anyone. Writing is little better. The clan's scholars were able to make minimal progress with enchantments, allowing him brief bouts of coherency, but his skills were usually only called upon as a last resort.

Despite several of the clan's finest mages wrestling with the problem, it was Relic who suggested the solution. After asking his help in sorting out cryptic scraps of parchment that had been brought into the clan's hoard, she noted that he was perfectly capable of rearranging pre-existing writing into a readable form. She enlisted Tephra to create a set of small stones bearing common words in Draconic, and offered them to Vanguard as a communications aid. The strategy paid off immediately. Since the initial breakthrough, Vanguard has started collecting 'wordstones' in various languages—painstakingly sorted into different pouches by helpful clanmates, of course. His ability to interpret is now limited only by his collection, and he seems to enjoy searching for new languages to add.
