They were hunters of the c̡o̷͢͞ŕ̶͡r̶͝u҉p̴t̷, a semi-existent cousin of the Shade, who were named as such due to their natural ability to, not kill, but deconstruct everything they touched. Physical items would fall apart, sometimes even melting down to the smallest of molecular levels. Creatures that had come in direct contact with them would eventually lose their minds, surrendering all grasp they had on reality. One could not see a distinct, physical form of the c̷͢o̵͘ŗ̴͘ŗ̴̶up͞ţ͡, but they could be detected with highly trained senses of sound and smell. Despite the c͠o̴͠͏r̷rư͏҉p͢t being rare,and few-and-far-between, Sokina's parents had made it their sworn duty to hunt them. Though Sokina never found out why, she was thus raised in the arms of the hunt and with the mind of a huntress.
When Sokina was born, her parents fretted over her fate. They were too far in the shifting expanse for her to be delivered to a safe place within reasonable time, and leaving a child all alone would have been selfless and cruel. Left with no choice, they took her along, shielding her from the harshness of the world and teaching her the ways of the huntress. They feared that their daughter would grow up to hate them- after all, what parents would teach their child to kill instead of live a happy, peaceful life? Yet as Sokina grew, these worries began to disappear. The girl adapted well to the living conditions, and took positively to their training. In fact, Sokina loved it, to a degree. Together, the family scoured the land for ç̀͢or̶͞r̴̵u̢̡pt̨, and Sokina quickly learned that these were not creatures to play around with. Her parents gave to her a sword, its blade forged of titanium, lined with a ruby edge, so it would be useful in battle both with and without the c͞͡o̵̵̶r̷r̴͢u̶̢͞p̷t͏͏҉ whose one weakness was the carmine stone.
After many years had passed of this wandering life, and with no major encounters with their target, Sokina and her family settled down to a peaceful life within the Starfall Isles. However, Sokina, a girl born to travel, eventually could not sit still. She knew she could not travel with her aging parents, so she eventually left on her own, reassuring her parents that she was off to find her own way.
Thus, Sokina became a wandering warrior. She traveled the land, performing odd jobs for a place to stay and food for a few nights. It was a rather peaceful lifestyle, and Sokina was able to explore more of the land than she could ever have imagined.
One night, while Sokina was staying in a small inn, commotion broke outside. Peering out her window, Sokina saw something she never thought she would in a residential area: a c̷͘ó̵͞ŗr̸͟u̶p̴̨͜t. Don't they only live in the Shifting Expanse? she panicked to herself, as she grabbed her sword and ran outside. Villagers held torches to illuminate the strange creature, as it floated aimlessly near the outskirt of the town. A trail of black smoke followed it, and its shape seemed to change in strange flinches and spasms.
Drawing her sword, Sokina shouted at the residents to back off. They did, but the noise attracted the attention of the unwanted being.
"B̲̜̩̗̲̱̼̙͘a͍͙̺͔̰̜͖͠c̥̩̘ķ̻͓̰̯̫͙̞͞ ̬̮̰͇͖͢a̢̹̟̟̥͈̣̬w̪̝á͓̟̻͢͢y̷͏̺͉̖̘̩͎̠?̳͉͎̫̝̲͜" it asked in broken language. Its voice changed pitch and frequency as it spoke.
"Go back to where you came from, fiend!" Sokina yelled, raising her weapon.
