- Nearly all species of sea turtle are classified as endangered

- Sea turtles can be found from the shallow seagrass beds of the Indian Ocean, to the colorful reefs of the Coral Triangle, and even the sandy beaches of the Eastern Pacific

- Sea turtles have roamed the earth for the last 110 million years

- Some sea turtles eat large numbers of jellyfish

- Some can live up to 50 years or more

- Most marine turtles take decades to mature (between 20-30 years)

- Accidental capture by fishing gear is the leading threat to turtles

- Climate change impacts sea turtle nesting beaches and eggs

- Males never leave the ocean, while females will come ashore to lay their eggs on sandy beaches during nesting season

- They consume squid, barnacles, jellyfish, seaweed, and sea anemones

- They migrate thousands of miles in their lifetime through ocean basins and high seas

- In a single nesting season, females may lay between 2-6 clutches of eggs, each containing 65-180 eggs

- Temperature determines the gender of the hatchling (warmer = female, cooler = male)

- 6/7 sea turtle species have hard shells, making leatherback turtles the outsiders

- Leatherbacks are the largest sea turtle species and can weight up to 1.5k pounds
