He is a fierce fighter. He knows that. He always has been. There is some vicious part of him that glories in the fight, in the rush of adrenaline and the copper-iron scent of blood in the air, and he hardly cares, sometimes, if it's his own or his opponent's. Some think him cruel and perhaps he can be, in the throes of a fight, but he is not always and it is far from the only reason he fights, to sate his hunger for blood and battle, to provide the satisfaction of tracking silently for hours. He has seen, after all, what happens to those without protection. To those without someone to provide for them. There is a reason he hunts as much as fends off raiders, there is a reason he sets time aside to make his potions and tend his weapons and it is not solely so he can go out and fight again. Someone must provide for the clan, after all. Someone must fight for it. And he knows full well that he is better equipped than most to do so. |

And so - it would be wrong to think him cruel or callous or uncaring. He has his heart, if one limited and determined in its purpose - but he does have a heart, even if others think it darkened and Shade-touched due to the pitch of his sclera. He does have a heart, even if it is brusque in manifestation, dropping ampelope in the clan's main hearth to be turned into stew for the hatchlings. He does have a heart, even if his affection manifests in brutal sparring matches in which only Inferniorum and Odogaron can keep up. He does have a heart, even if he is afraid of what might come of telling Odogaron the whole of it. It is easier, sometimes, to snap at Disharmony for her tricks and how she gets in the way and how her mischief hurts others even if only in small ways. Others think him impatient and snappish, that he knows, but he thinks too that Odogaron and Inferniorum understand. Even his snappishness has another root than simply cruelty. They are social animals, are they not? He would never have chosen to become one of them if he had not another purpose. He fights fiercely, yes. He fights fiercely for them, that too. |
