Biography
Lues
looze Acolyte | Priestess of the Toxic Bloom | Necromancer
Backstory To most dragons, where Lues came from is a mystery. She speaks of being raised by the land, and knows not who her parents are; but where did she originate? Based on her tattered wings and pustules, some theorize she wandered the Abiding Boneyard in her youth - or emerged straight from the Wyrmwound. Regardless, she is a devout preacher of the good of survival and the ways of Plague - although her idea of Plague’s “ways” seems a little warped. Somewhere in her travels, before she came across the fledgling Toxic Wastes, Lues learned the dark art of Necromancy. Rather than shun the idea, as most Plague dragons will, Lues eagerly accepted it and even mastered it. It came to light early on that she was a Necromancer, and those loyal to Plague requested that she be cast from the clan. Lues offered a counter argument: were she allowed to stay, she could help Andiron with any Imperials who died on his lands. She could raise them, move them to a safe place, and end them once again. She could tell that the King was fearful of Emperors, and dug her claws into that fear, assuring him that she could assuage it. She even offered to teach him some of her tricks. He accepted. With her position in the clan solidified, Lues eagerly took up the mantle of Priestess, her sermons beckoning most of the clan forth even after they knew her secrets. She proved to be a capable preacher; most of her sermons were sensible enough, about the importance of survival and worshipping the Plaguebringer. Sometimes, she would insinuate that Necromancy was the key to continued survival… but she never outright said it. At least, not usually. Then, one day, she came home with an undead dragon. The beast, named Kylskada, was a rotting, ugly thing that snapped at anyone who came near. Any other dragon would have had their affront to Plague thrown out, most likely with them as well. However, Lues had a solid grip on Andiron, and he reluctantly permitted Kylskada to stay - provided she could behave. Lues set about “training” her new “friend”, and all was going smooth enough for the others to ignore. Whereupon Odol arrived, throwing the clan into chaos. Odol is a Plague mystic who is, perhaps, even more devoted to the Scarred Wasteland than Lues is. Many speculate that he is a son of the Plaguebringer herself, a fact which he has never denied. He made several things very clear upon his arrival - he was a devout Plague acolyte, his magic was strong enough to kill other dragons with just a tilt of his head, and he had been sent by the Plaguebringer to “atone” for the “sins” of the clan. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that Lues was the one he was after. To her credit, Lues handled the situation well, in the beginning. She all but ignored Odol, only acknowledging him when strictly necessary and usually in a very friendly way. She made sure Kylskada was kept away from him, gave him a wide berth, and overall seemed only mildly inconvenienced by his presence. The rest of the clan, however, feared Odol. If he was truly sent by the Plaguebringer, that meant she was paying attention to them. This was bad for several reasons, not the least of which being the Emperor hidden in the deepest chambers of the lair. Lues’ sermons began to attract less and less of a crowd, and most everyone seemed on edge, but for the few who couldn’t be bothered to care about the inner politics of the clan. When the elemental shift happened, turning the Toxic Wastes into the Toxic Bloom, Lues’ carefully crafted public personality finally seemed to crack. Seeing her beloved Plague clan covered in foliage was a shock, and she strongly protested Andiron’s decision to embrace the shift and change the clan’s name. Even still, she handled it better than Odol did, and was back to giving sermons within the week. Eventually she would stumble across a frightening sight - Odol trying to destroy Kylskada, convinced that the reason they were “abandoned by the Plaguebringer” was because of her existence. Lues attacked Odol, and very well may have lost her life had Andiron not intervened… and Odol listened to him. Andiron scolded the mystic harshly, telling him that killing fellow clan members was off limits, undead or not. If he tried to attack Kylskada again, he would be banished, and Andiron assured him that their new allegiance to the Gladekeeper meant he had no say in the matter. Lues felt vindicated. Andiron was on her side, or so it seemed, and Odol was going to be kept in check. Perhaps she could handle the elemental shift after all. She felt unnerved by Aviv’s birth, and the arrival of the Nature Sprite that became his companion, but she remained steadfast. The Toxic Bloom was her home; and perhaps, if she prayed hard enough, the Plaguebringer would retake the clan. It remains in her lands, after all. Today, Lues still preaches, although her congregation is pitifully small, and now she competes with Selvans, whose Nature sermons fill the chamber. She bears no ill will; she knows times are changing, and is happy to just be the best she can be. Yet there is a dark cloud over her… Odol’s ever-present threat of taking her down. He seems to respect Andiron, but for how long, and how much? What will his brand of “justice” look like? Will Lues survive? She worries most for Kylskada, her beloved friend, mindless beast though she may be. Odol seems determined to see her destroyed… just how far will he go? Only time will tell. |
