.....The limestone streets of Lanternlea Port may be comfortably busy, activity teeming to its fringes, but even the orbs of light eventually lose their lustre when scattered too far from the port's heart. One lone road, cobbled and draped with auburn mosses, mingled with wooden planks and barricaded bridges, winds around the village and down the sheer cliffs until it leads to a wide ledge jutting from a shallow cavern.

.....Two enormous ridgebacks loom over this isolated place. One is partially sunken into the clay, some scales roughened and burdened by the weight of the cavern they uphold while others shine smooth, golden, and metallic despite constant weathering. The other is perched near the edge of the outcropping, each of their scales rippling and reflecting a constant sunset over the sea. Both are draped in layers of tattered silks, tapestries, and fabric emblems of clans, scholars, and beings past; their eyes glow with pure light even as shadows curl around their wings and bodies and flicker in the periphery. Unseen forms skirt the cliff and cavern, carrying with them lanterns of flickering gold and shimmering debris collected over the seasons.

.....Whispered promises of knowledge and truth tempt dragons who breathe in the salt-swept air; however, there is both a prison and a haven to be found here. Between the two living ridgeback statues, exactly halfway beneath the cavern and the exposed earth of the cliffside, is a large well encircled by pale stone bricks. The structure contrasts with the crumbling path that leads to it; there are no plants sprouting from between the stones, and little erosion has occurred. If a dragon happens to find their way into the well—whether by incident or purpose—they will be caught in an unrelenting wind current that coils around its quarry and pulls it into the maze of tunnels, chasms, and chambers known as the Oubliette.

.....The ancient underground structure is both a prison and a home for its residents; a few dragons have taken to exploring and organizing the mass of information that lies within its walls, while others creep in the hollow spaces with dull eyes and cramped wings. It is said—mostly in murmurs and brief, gossipy echoes—that only the true knowledge-seekers are able to find direction and purpose in the Oubliette. Those who seek selfish gain or lack repentance are bound to drag themselves through faintly lit halls or curl within domed dungeons until they come to realize what truth they need. Only then can they find the path leading to freedom.
