Biography
MAYDEN
(Rank/Title In Your Clan)
EXILE OF CHAMPION'S GROVE (Position in Your Clan) Servant of the Gladekeeper Bound to Voiss |
|
Mayden perched atop a wet stone ledge above the Grove’s crystal lake. She gazed down at the various dragons, disinterested in the majority of them. There were a few members of the Lair she tolerated more than others - like the Pearlcatcher sisters resting in the lake below. For the most part, however, she preferred to keep to herself. She turned her attention from the others to herself; polishing the smooth sapphires inlaid into her hide. She momentarily admired the sheen before leaping down from the ledge, landing softly on the mossy soil below. She had just begun to bend for a drink when she felt a familiar presence behind her. The clan's God, Shathar, loomed behind her. "Mayden," he greeted, his voice an ancient growl. The Coatl turned to face him fully, already knowing why he came to speak with her. "Surely you have found a suitable partner by now?" The Guardian prompted impatiently. "Orion is one of your own. He should suit you fine." It was true Orion was a well enough male - born into the Lightning Flight just as her - but he was infatuated with an Imperial named Aderyn. Aside from that, Mayden found him rather... dull. Not just him, but all the males in the Grove. Their scales lacked the vibrancy she had only seen in a few males on the outside. "Well?" Shathar pressed again, snapping Mayden out of her thoughts. She looked at the ground, avoiding the leader’s eyes. “I don’t know, I haven’t chosen. I actually...” She faltered briefly before straightening and tentatively meeting the Guardian’s gaze. “I actually found someone. Outside.” She watched his brow raise in surprise as he bared his teeth, lips curling into a wicked scowl. “Outside?” He laughed, an unexpected, deep rumble in the cave. “Interestng. Which Flight?” Mayden stiffened at the inquiry, set on edge from the God’s malicious laugh. She hesitated before answering. “Well, he serves the Gladekeeper as well, but -“ “But nothing!” Shathar interrupted. “That’s good enough. There will be no squabble about who your half shall be exalted to.” The Coatl cringed inwardly at the words, but she let him continue. “You will stay in the Lair, and your mate - whomever he is - may reside here as well. I expect you have told him our laws?” Mayden quickly glanced away, shook her feathers a bit and turned back. "Shathar," she began, "I spoke with him, and neither of us wish to release our offspring so quickly. I owe none the same debt as you to the Gladekeeper. Your curse is not my burden to bear." The leader’s teeth snapped together loudly, and his nostrils flared with anger. “You were taken in to our Lair. You may owe no debt to the Gladekeeper through birth, but your debt is through us. You were trained alongside us, and housed in our sanctuary.” His voice had been a booming growl in the cave, but with an adamant huff he lowered his voice once more. “Return to the barracks. The clan will gather and once a verdict on your status has been reached, you will be summoned.” With that he turned, the fireflies illuminating their surroundings trailing away after him. |
B I O G R A P H Y
Though originally from the Stormcatcher's domain, Mayden remembers nothing before her life in the Champion's Grove. She was found as an abandoned hatchling and taken in by the clan's Night Mother, Gaia. She was raised and trained as a warrior of the Grove, but she never shared her native-born peer's devotion to Shathar or the Gladekeeper. The expectation of all members to exalt half of each nest seemed to be fine to everyone but her; and upon expressing her disagreement to the leader she was exiled from the Lair. From there, she took shelter in another Clan, with a male named Voiss who had shown interest in being her mate.
