━━ about ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
3:57 pm, 15th, Month of Rest, Year of the Spirit
I find I've lost my way among the ruins in the Hewn City; sadly I've not the faintest idea where to go, and it's begun to snow. What's worse, I can feel eyes on me, watching me.
There are hungry things here in these ruins. I've heard the tales, and what's more, seen things far beyond the scope of the old ghost stories dragons like to swap around the campfires. I must find a place to rest, and soon. Night will be falling in the next few hours. I find myself wishing I'd never taken this trip. To think, I could be safe at home with my lovely mate. I hope I'll be able to write more, but if I can't find shelter before nightfall, I'm afraid this may well be my last entry. If anyone should find this, find my lovely Asta and tell her I missed her till the very end. 11:03 pm, 15th, Month of Rest, Year of the Spirit (addition)
It seems I'm saved! I stumbled upon a home, and while at first, it appeared unoccupied (the gardens seem unkept; the roses grow wild and uncontrolled, overtaking nearly everything in sight save the house itself). But as I explored the grounds, I stumbled upon an elegant skydancer, tending the roses, which, it seems, she has allowed to overtake the garden as they are her favorite.
She herself is a quiet thing, and carries herself with a dignity I've never seen on a dragon in these ruins. She tells me she has made herself a home here, and she welcomes guests, and offered me lodging for the night. It sounded suspicious, I suppose, like a story I'd once heard before I was even fledged, of a witch who lured strangers into her home and killed them in their sleep. But I know I wouldn't last the night by myself, so I made the decision to risk it, deciding if I had the choice to die in the cold or with a roof over my head, I'd rather have a roof above me. But it has been hours since, and I've seen a number of other dragons living comfortably here. Perhaps they are a bit peculiar, but they are not unkind in their manner, and Eve has sent one to me with a warm meal -- the first I've had in weeks, I think. Perhaps I am too quick to trust, but as I sit beside a warm fire, warming my wings, I find myself feeling secure for the first time since I left home. Asta, my love, if I should survive this night, I swear I will do all in my power to return to you. Only wait for me. 6:19 am, 23rd, Month of Rest, Year of the Spirit
I woke well before dawn today, to see if I could possibly catch Eve before she disappeared. I managed to find her in the kitchens, sipping on tea and chatting with a young Fae.
When she saw me come in, Eve told me it was a surprise to see me up so early. I told her I fell asleep early the night before, and that I had hoped to speak with her. She seemed amused, and excused herself to walk with me. 7:09 pm, 28th, Month of Rest, Year of the Spirit
These dragons keep a strange schedule, I think. I wonder if I've stumbled upon a mystery deeper than any other the Hewn City could possibly offer.
By night, the Lady of the House, Eve, walks the grounds, as do a particular number of dragons, always the same. And by day, I have seen the Lord of the House, Samael, do the same, and with his own set of dragons who wake only by day, like Samael himself. And neither Samael nor Eve seem to have ever interacted, as suggested by their confusion when I inquired. And yet, what Eve begins by night but does not finish by sunrise, I have seen Samael take up the very next morning, and complete, and vice versa. I've even tried to ask Adam and Lilith what it means, but neither of them seems to know, either. I even asked Adam if he was the Lord of the House, but he merely laughed and said that he was Eve's consort. I suspect Lilith would answer the same. There are some here, though, dragons that don't follow the same schedule, but wake when it pleases them. I've asked them, and while they confirm that while both Eve and Samael are both the Lady and Lord of the House, they will tell me little else. I've been tempted to ask ther Others - they're called the Betweeners. Dragons who wake before dawn and go to sleep after, or who wake before dusk and go to sleep after. But I have been warned to stay away from these dragons, warned that they are dangerous creatures who should be sought only when truly, utterly desperate. I believe it. Oh, Asta, I had meant to leave, but I am desperate for answers. Please wait for me, dear heart. |
