THE GUIDE SPIRIT

it/he - chaotic good - blackbark weald

'you walk through the woods, you're hearing distant calls,
you think you're gone for good, you're stuck inside the walls'

_________________ Many a dragon have strolled through the rolling hills, along the worn path, through the quiet village of Ashgale and into the Blackbark Weald beyond. Few have returned.

It's said that the trees there grow taller and taller, the path more serpentine, and the darkness somehow heavier as one travels through the Weald... While few have ever set a shaky, rattled step back out again, fewer still speak of their experiences afterwards, shrouding the woodland in an air of mystery.

Those who do speak, however, all tell tales of a strange spirit- a guide, of sorts- with eyes like flickering lanterns. This odd spirit appears to know the paths of the Weald like the back of its’ tiny clawed hand, although it only ever leads travelers in one direction: back to the entrance, where they began...

A small, ramshackle altar to the creature sits near the very start of the trail, where the sunlight still shines, and the breeze still smells like home. Occasionally, villagers will leave offerings in the form of shiny coins and picked flowers. A lantern sits beside the altar, always mysteriously lit, waiting for the next traveler to pass by.
