Harlequin was born into the circus - quite literally, really.

Her mother had been a member of the same circus group that Harlequin spent her formative years performing in, and when she and her broodmates were still just eggs, they were left to keep warm by a roaring fire as their mother performed in the tent adjacent.

But Harlequin was the last to hatch, of the three eggs in the clutch, and her siblings were troublemakers from the start. While trying to, supposedly, inch the remaining egg closer to the fire to encourage it to hatch, her siblings slipped, and sent Harlequin rolling out of the tent, still inside her egg.

Right into the ongoing performance she rolled, underneath the feet of prancing lionsnakes and greattusks balancing on balls as fireworks rained down from above. The tent was alight with commotion as the egg rolled into it, dodging dangers and catching the lights, creating a brilliant, sparkling show until it rolled to a stop, colliding with the pole at the center of the tent.

The egg began to split, thick cracks forming across the surface like lightning. Harlequin, still slimy and slick from the fluids inside the shell, crawled out, and promptly sneezed, sending flames, and snot among other things, out in a great burst that licked at the inside of the tent, and coming from such a small creature, it was an amusing sight, sending the crowd into hysterics.

Since then, Harlequin had outgrown the theatrics of the circus, and loathed the position of jester long before she grew up - but she'd grown attached to the ideals, and the flashy costume wasn't half bad either. But the circus life no longer suited her, and so she set off on her own with a tearful goodbye from her family, to make her own way in the world and find out what did suit her.

She traveled all across the globe, entertaining great parties thrown by nobles, singing and dancing at festivals, and even settling down at times between her great adventures, to learn a new craft and perfect it before moving on to the next great thing.
