Background

No one knows where Urushihara (oo-roo-shee-har-ah) really came

from. It's said he's the forbidden offspring of an exalted, though that's all speculation. What is known is that he came up from the Leviathan Trench around 4 decades ago. For years he traveled among all the lands that touched the sea, even going as far as the Southern Icefields and Ashfall Wastes. It was in the Windswept Plateau and Ashfall Wastes that he received his markings. After decades of wandering, and no small number of adventures, he returned to the Sea and established the clan that would become his Charge with the friends and allies he'd made along the way.

Personality & Role
Austere, blunt, composed, and a true strategist, Urushihara is a male that can be relied upon and he swiftly coaxed his small band into a respectable clan. He is generous to those close to him and slow to accept outsiders. Urushi (as he is known by only a few) is a dragon of few words but he has a charm and a passion that makes him a leader dragons of every manner and background want to follow. Despite that, ironically enough, a number of Urushi's original clan members - such as Miquoi and Lan Zhan - believed that his idea of having some kind of odd non-familial inheriting, sometimes democratic, oligarchical government for their clan would be sure to fail. "He wasn't giving himself enough power and no other clan would respect such a loosely ruled tribe." Miquoi even suggested a system more akin to Masaka's clan (a dragoness with whom they'd established a delicate alliance). Needless to say, Urushihara vehemently rejected the idea and, turns out, everything ended up working alright. His Mystics are respected, efficient leaders and his clan is centralized just enough that they aren't considered a band of ruffians by (most) others.

Magick
Urushi was born and left with nothing but his base instincts and capabilities. Thankfully, he happened to be quite adept at water magick, or at the very least learned to be. He discovered, as he grew older and began traveling beyond the Trench and beyond the Sea, that he was particularly talented in storm magick. A very handy type of magick, he thought, considering he could still use it away from water and the home he'd grown weary of. Of course, his power is much stronger the closer he is to water and the more water there is around. Miquoi always thought it ironic how reflective his magick was of his personality. "A steady build into an explosion of the heavens." Nevertheless, like most other Guardians, he prefers to use words or claws before his magick and almost never feels the need for it (despite his clan's heavy magickal foundation).

Relations
Urushihara has no partner since he made such relations forbidden to Mystics so as to avoid conflicting priorities. His closest relations are mostly those of his original company (Ayati, Miquoi, Orestes, Morir, and Lan Zhan) and the current Mystics. Despite his cold exterior, he regularly takes time to be personally assured of his clan members' welfare. He views it his duty as guardian of Joyaux de Tempête to be assured of his dragons' well-being and to take into account their thoughts. Thanks to this philosophy of his, everyone feels a sort of comfort and familiarity with him that helps keep the constantly shifting clan united.

Origin Story

In the shallow water of the high-ground Tsunami Flats, before the towering seaside, sandstone cliffs, a band of outcasts rested in the cool waters.

"Urushi we can't stay here."

The dark Guardian turned from the cliffs to face his companion, laying in the shallow waters now stained with his blood. "We fought for this place, Ore. Why would you expect us to leave now?" He spoke quietly, slowly, as if always contemplating, as if something else was always on his mind. Orestes shook his head and struggled to his feet.

"Ore, be gentle with yourself," Miquoi scolded, the small Skydancer hovering worriedly.

"I'm fine, Mimi," he dismissed, exhaling heavily as if the very act of breathing was becoming difficult.

"Uru," he tilted his head slightly in favor of his good eye, "we'll have to always fight if we stay here."

"No we won't."

He scoffed, shaking his head like he was explaining something to a child. "Look around, Urushi. The waters are clear, the cliffs massive and easily mined, you can hear the waterfall where the River joins the sea from here." The pale Guardian whipped his tail back and forth, motioning to the surrounding area. "This is prime real estate! We will never have peace if we try to stay here."

Government

The Mystics are the ruling body of Joyaux de Tempête . When they want to induct a new

member or replace someone, then the Mystics choose a candidate and call a meeting for any and all clanmates that wish to attend to decide if the candidate is suitable for the position. Shjije and Koschei both had to go through this process.

Aside from choosing new Mystics, most all major decisions are made by the Mystics, such as

new member acceptance (though they're pretty loose on that), whether to go to war, travelling to new lands, etc.

Clan Society
Joyaux de Tempête is a semi-nomadic, mixed-breed clan. Many members travel consistently and sell their wares & talents along the way (it's practically the entire function of the Diviners). As a result, the whole clan's generally very accepting, laissez-faire, and has kind of loose morals but that's not important. They travel mostly - though not entirely - within the Shifting Expanse, Sunbeam Ruins, Windswept Plateau, and Tangled Wood (most make a point to avoid the Ashfall Wastes, they don't enjoy it much). The clan does have a section of territory, at the mouth of the Great River, that they consider a kind of 'home base' where the clanmates who can't, or won't, travel stay. There always remains at least three Mystics and one team of Raptors at the home settlement at all times.
