The sky was smoky gray, yet streaked with light. Great clouds loomed in the heavens, parted by the celestial rays of sunlight forcing its way to the ground of Sornieth. Birds soared through the air, trembling with delight as they savored the break in the storm. A frail dragon watched them, envious of their ability to fly. Her wings were tattered and mangled, too small to take flight. She was all by herself, her glowing eyes radiating a perpetual sadness.

If one had been there just minutes earlier, they would have witnessed as an angel was thrown from heaven and tumbled to Earth. For the poor dear could not fly, and so she was exiled from her clan in the aether. Of course she had survived the fall, but now she was mortal, and more importantly, in danger. For an angel (even a mortal one), radiates an aura of purity, something many evil creatures would desire to snuff out. She was close to death's door.

Sensing her peril, a flock of doves (the rightful familiars of angels) soared down and congregated around the limp hatchling. They wove their magic together to create a powerful beacon of light and together merged themselves into one. One beautiful cloud-colored dove perched upon Aarin's shoulder, and the child arose as good as new. She started to wander, with her dove companion always at her side, looking for her wings.
