jordana.
the rune mage & guardsdrake
Quote:
Though many mages would find themselves stifled by Thunder Hollow's ley-darkness, Jordana was quickly and easily able to adapt to the clan's unique challenges. Though not a proper rune mage at the time of her arrival, the art came naturally to her and she is now able to wield runes cleverly for a myriad of uses--among which battle is actually the least. Though her snappy skills have won her a place in the Hollowguard, where she uses them to bolster the ranged division and heal those who take damage, she primarily uses her knowledge of runes to replace natural magic throughout the clan. From runes designed to simulate elemental terrain in the clan's farms to long-lasting water transportation runes that pump fresh water up from the Sea, Jordana has been a pioneer in returning Thunder Hollow to the modern magical age...at least inasmuch as runes can manage.
Jordana is what one might call the "bookish" type, preferring peace and quiet to rowdy social gatherings. Her friend group is small but close, and any who she allows into this carefully-crafted inner circle know how to respect her boundaries. Jordana finds that solitude gets her creative wheels churning, allowing her to dream up new runes and design them for charging elsewhere in Sornieth. She enjoys creating art of all sorts and has been known to sell her pieces on occasion in the clan's market, where they are quickly snapped up by clanmates and visitors alike. She is also quite the bookwyrm and takes a trip to the clan's library weekly to refresh her collection. Her tastes aren't limited solely to fiction (though it will always be her first love), and she can converse intelligently in many subject areas. A particular favorite of hers is the history of Sornieth.
Though she has a strong passion for her work, Jordana can easily become distracted by passing visions of creativity. The Guardhead, Envy, has long since stopped trying to impose deadlines on her when it comes to matters such as routine replacement runes and spell-reservoirs because she seldom respects them. She takes a long time to warm up to people and has been known to be standoffish to new members of the guard, especially apprentices or those who come to the guard for lessons in self-defense. Her tremendous runic knowledge is something she is hesitant to share with those she does not know closely, and new rune designs are typically guarded for months or more because she feels too embarrassed to share them until they are "perfected."
She is an amateur writer but wouldn't dare share her work with anyone. She has published only a few short stories to the clan's library, and all of them were written under pseudonyms and submitted anonymously.
Jordana took to learning Common quite capably, likely due to her mixed-species childhood clan. Her speech is a bit hesitant, but she writes and hears fluently. Despite being one of the farthest-progressed Coatls in the clan when it comes to learning Common, she is too shy to participate in any form of assistive translation or tutoring program. She has, however, been known to swoop down from the city walls and guide confused Coatl travelers on occasion.
