B I O G R A P H Y

The only reason she was brought up in the elven clan she was born to and not kicked out was for her magical prowess. It also the reason she was even named, for her high-elf parents had all but left her care to the nursemaids who were just as repulsed with her existence. The outburst her infant self made due to the neglect was when her arcane blood made itself known. With that she was blessed with her name, said to be lucky.

And so the story goes; she was taught by the finest mentors her clan had at their disposal, grooming her to become a weapon for them to use. They treated her with civility, never raising hand or voice against her person but not out of respect; it was out of fear. Out of acknowledging the fact that she is more than capable of disintegrating anyone into ashes with her innate abilities - she was a bomb, to them, to be handled carefully and to avoid if you can help it.

It was something fortunata noticed. hard not to, since outside of her lessons she was all but ostracized from the rest of the community.

Age mates avoided and declined any of her attempts at friendship, those younger than her would flee or shy away from her presence having been told of her being their clan's own bogeyman that will take them away when they misbehave by their parents. Adults were the only ones who would hold small conversations with her, but all but treated her with the same clipped formality that left her desperate for companionship.

_PART TWO_

____Lord El'adrin was a surprise, and made her wary with his pleasant demeanor towards her. When the two met she was used to being held at arm's length and had ceased trying to reach out to others, so when he consistently was the initiator of conversations that lasted longer than two minutes she was suspicious. But her desire for a bond won out and she reluctantly grew to trust him as something of an older brother figure.

(She should have trusted her instincts. Her new companion did have malicious intentions, but she was too blinded by her desperation for a friend. He felt threatened by her prowess and saw her as a rival to his own grandeur, and didn't want anyone - much less a tiefling - to become more powerful than he.)

And so he planted the idea in her head that getting rid of one of the enemy families would grant her the praise and attention she always desired, that she would grant the clan a great favor that would be returned with her hailed as a hero. She did not want to do it, but he was her good - and only - friend. She did not want to do it. She didn't.

Fortunata ended up relenting, with El'adrin's Suggestion.

_PART THREE_

____The rising smoke from the buildings set aflame was visible for miles around. Fortunata returned after she was the only person standing, the fur coat of the now-dead patriarch slung on her shoulders, singed and smelling like ash and iron.

But instead of being met by the cheers El'adrin promised to lead upon her return, she was apprehended and beat like a dog and brought to trial. Throughout it she desperately pleaded that it wasn't her idea, that it was he who insisted she do it.

But what good is the word of a demon against that of an esteemed member of their society? One who insists that he did no such thing, that he actually tried his best to stop her but was struck down by her?

Fortunata was ruled a monster and exiled.

She was given until sundown to leave the clan's territory with nothing but the clothes on her back, the blood of hundreds on her hands —

and the burning determination to snap the betrayer’s neck one day.
