Kanriss wandered the halls of her family's estate in the Starfall Isles with nothing short of a following. More than the attraction of her future inheritance, Kanriss's physical beauty gave her no end to suitors. Suitors who bore roses, poems, and gifts laden with compliments of her eyes, her natural lace, her smile...

Eventually, she was sick of it.

Kanriss abandoned her family and the lands of the Arcanist altogether. Wrapped in layers of clothing, she settled into the Barrow clan in the Shrieking Wilds. She made a friend in the clan's Plague specialist, Shattergun, and slowly started to integrate into the clan. No one batted an eye at her appearance or spoke too long with her. For a time, Kanriss thought she'd found her home. She enjoyed her stay with the Barrow clan but even Shattergun could tell she grew anxious. Kanriss worried about her family, even if she didn't want to go back to them. She didn't quite understand all the nuances of life in the forest. And most of all, singing the praises of the Gladekeeper felt... wrong.

Her time came to return to the Starfall Isles. With a goodbye to her friend, she returned to her homeland and sought a new lair. The royal keep in Hoverview Vale hadn't been her intial choice, but when visiting she was pulled aside by the guards. After some nervous explanation by what appeared to be the king, Kanriss was asked with a task that apparently only she could complete--retrieving the crown princess. The young princess was the only spiral in their clan and had intentionally wormed her way into secret tunnels to escape her duties. Kanriss thought it odd, but as the only other spiral around, she obliged.

Rietta was a lonely girl, she discovered. Upon settling into the girl's hideout, she learned about all the expectations thrust upon her and all the restrictions that kept her from living a normal life. Kanriss's childhood was not nearly as strict, but she understood a bit. After some talk and promises that she wouldn't get in trouble, Kanriss convinced the princess to return to her chambers. The king was quite pleased with Kanriss and offered her to stay as a noble.

Nobility was the last thing she wanted returned to her, but, she did want to watch over the little girl. Instead, she asked to be the princess's handmaid. The request was found odd, but granted, and Kanriss found a new place to be both ignored and wanted, while also capable of finding information of her parents' wellbeing.
