Book of Urban Legends
Wildborn -- Youngling -- Explorer

Hatched in the wild, far away from Gaoler society, Teela grew for many years as a wild dragon without a clan, roaming Sornieth in a state that was little better than feral. Shi survived in the wild only through a combination of hir tenacity and vigor; shi was too hard to catch, and so none could kill hir. All the world was the enemy of the little dragon as shi grew. Shi fled from Beastmen; shi fled from Familiars; shi even fled from other Dragons, until one day in the Tangle Wood, when shi was no longer a hatchling but certainly no adult.

Shi was hunting, prowling the glowing dark; this part of the forest seemed less travelled to hir, the bed of leaves on the ground thick. Too thick. Young as shi was, shi was naive, and shi walked directly into the Monster trap that Irynix had set. Shi was swept up in the net, struggling and screaming hir fury into the darkness, drawing the Wildclaw trapper quickly, and when the Crimson dragon and hir fearsome Nochnyr drew close, they were surprised to find not a creature of the wild but a dragon in their trap!

And a young one, too. Teela spoke no words when shi was first captured, making only the snarling and bellows of a wild creature, and hir wild struggling to become free from the trap alarmed Irynix. Darting the wild dragon with a potion of sleep, shi watched as the young one succumbed and went limp...

When Teela woke again, shi was in a cell.

The Head Keeper Marie, Warden of the clan was before hir, a huge and imposing Gaoler with branching turquoise horns and such a beautiful, brightly colored, busy pattern to hir fur that it made one's head ache. Perching in hir antlers were birds; nestled in hir chest-mane were small Familiars, insects and mice. Shi spoke, but the smaller Gaoler only retreated into the far corner of the room and hissed. It became clear that shi spoke no Draconic, not even the Ancient tongue, and Marie retreated, leaving the smaller dragon alone. It was clear this creature was not Shadetouched, just frightened, and the Warden begrudgingly vowed to care for hir. Something about the wild little dragon reminded hir of hir familiars...

Over months of work and training, Marie and hir partner Curie worked together to help the little dragon learn to trust them. Shi was locked into hir cell, and the little dragon paced back and forth in front of the sturdy door, unable to burn it or batter it down with hir current level of power, helpless to the ones who had captured hir. Unable to understand their language shi was badly frightened, and when the door opened again shi backed into the corner again, hissing and spitting... but the big dragons that came in set before hir a cauldron of water, a pot of food, and left. Shi crept forward to sniff, and then drank; shi was badly thirsty and in need of something to eat. The young drake had never tasted cooked food, and the sensation of it was incredible; shi ate until hir belly was so full shi was almost sick from it, and relaxed onto the nest that had been prepared for hir.

When the big dragons returned shi was still wary, but they had brought hir some things to make hir nest more comfortable, and left hir some objects to amuse hirself with. There were books and scrolls which made no sense to hir, but there were small toys and gadgets as well... and then the big bright pair of dragons was back. One of the little creatures in the bigger one's mane came down, and scurried across the floor to Teela. It was a catlike creature, with a burly forequarters and a stand of bamboo growing from where its tail should be, but despite the regal and predatory look on its face, it seemed gentle, curious. It sniffed hir, and then crawled up into hir fur, to nestle down... hir first Familiar.

The big dragons left hir to get acquainted with hir new Familiar, and though shi was wary of it, its unfailing friendliness won hir over. It had already been well-trained by Marie and it was a very inquisitive creature, and Teela couldn't resist the cat's charm as it rubbed against hir and purred. Shi had been alone for so long, and though shi was still scared, it warmed hir heart in a way she'd never known to have the company of a little critter.

Slowly, over the course of a few weeks, the pair of Keepers carefully worked to win the wildborn dragon over, and by the end of the first month shi had begun to trust them enough to follow them out of hir cell. Shi was introduced to the rest of the clan, and though shi didn't understand their words, shi understood their welcome. It was more friendliness and kindness than shi had ever experienced, and more than once during the celebratory feast announcing hir adoption, shi had to duck away and cry. Shi couldn't understand the words, but shi knew how shi felt about their smiles and their laughter -- shi felt included for the first time in hir entire life.

Months followed, and slowly shi began to learn the Draconic tongue. Hir uncanny prowess on the battlefield was revealed quickly as well; while out fishing with Yiauwa the blue drake had spotted some Monsters to fight, and had sprung into action, only to be surprised by Teela right at hir side, fighting hard. The little drake wasn't trained as well as the bigger, older ones, but hir native aptitude for it shone, and soon shi was working with the others to fight in the wilds, hunting alongside Yiauwa, who had become something of a big sibling to hir.

Currently Teela doesn't speak perfect Draconic, and hir words will always have the distinctive "accent" of having been raised with no language, some sounds still unfamiliar to hir and giving hir trouble. However, shi is learning more every day, and shi works hard to understand; shi has begun the slow process of learning to read the written Draconic script, and is beginning to understand deeper concepts like mathematics and logic. However, shi still has a deep wild streak, and hir nature has not been fully conquered; shi will likely always remain half-beast at heart.
