Athanasius

Athanasius was never the luckiest dragon in Sornieth. He was born cursed, and killed everything he touched. He was abandoned by his parents when his terrible powers grew stronger and stronger. This left Athanasius shocked and confused.

Why did my parents leave me? Why am I cursed? These questions along others frequently popped up in his head as a hatchling.

Finlay was the first one to see him. He seen Athanasius' withering curse, but was not afraid. This amazed Athanasius. How could any dragon not tremble at the sight of his curse? Finlay told him to wait on the outskirts of their clan territory. After a while, Finlay came with Keelin, who was (and still is) Finlay's wife. As the matriarch, she was the only one who could decide who could join the clan. However, she loves everyone, and let him in almost immediately, even though she knew about his curse.

He stayed away far away from his clanmates, but envied those who could touch others. As he got older, his wish to have a family grew larger and larger.

He then decided to ask a question he never dated ask before. "Is there a way to break the curse?"

He had told his clanmates that he would venture and see if anyone could break this dehabilitating curse. They all accepted his decision, but Keelin made him promise to come back. He traveled to the Starfall Isles to the Shifting Expanse, to Dragon home to the Sea of a Thousand Currents. By the time he reached the Southern Ice Field, he felt that he had traveled everywhere. No one seem to knew how to help, and most didn't even talk to him.

Athanasius walked around, his head hanging low. He had ventured all over Sornieth to see if anything could survive his deadly touch. From the smallest flower to the largest oak tree, from a small fly to a huge wartoad, everything seemed to perish beneath his claws. Even the grass he walked on withered with each step. He then saw a group of dragons in the distance.

"What were they doing" he thought. Not wanting to hurt anyone, he decided to stay very far from them, but close enough to where he could get a glimpse of what was going on. And alas, he caught a glimpse alright. It was apparent that the stunning Skydancer knew her way with the art of dancing. He stood in awe, contemplating if he should stay or get closer. He decided to stay where he was, and waited for the crowd to dissipate. He then got close to the beautiful dancer.

Nervous about touching her, he stayed several body lengths away. He didn't want her beauty to fade underneath his claws like everything else.

"My name is Athanasius." He stated anxiously.

"I have traveled wide to find a cure for my curse, and although you may not be the cure, your dance certainly took my mind off of it. Even if it was just for a fleeting moment. However, I wasn't able to get a good look as those dragons had circled you, blocking me from looking at the majority of your elegant dance. Would you mind dancing for me again?" He asked, dreading her answer, as he surely believed he wouldn't be able to view that breathtaking dance again. Not to mention how beautiful she was.
