Though Brista and the bridge prevent intruders from reaching the Luminaries, the eyes and ears of a sentry remain invaluable. After all, not every threat will attempt to stroll through the front door. The most dangerous ones certainly won't be so brazen, and it would be terribly negligent to let them make their approach without someone ready to warn the keep.
So for all the lively energy Hasuran pours into his life outside of acting as a sentry, he takes his duties with the utmost seriousness.
Formally, he is known as the Dawn Chaser. As the sun rises, so does he, taking up his post atop the central spire of the keep. The spire provides him with an unobstructed view of the Luminaries' island, sight lines into the distance on almost all sides, and open balconies to launch himself from in the event he must sound the alarm.
Of course, keeping watch when there is nothing to watch for can be tedious, and Hasuran's favorite activities do not typically involve silence of stillness. To stave off boredom during his watch, he keeps a count of the birds that go by, or sings ballads to the noonday sun. In this way, he keeps the days from blending together, and the horizon fresh in his mind until it comes time to retire for the evening.
Despite the aspects of sentry work that seem at odds with Hasuran's jovial nature, he cherishes his post nonetheless. With the Luminaries, he has a safe place to lay his head at night, regular square meals, and a sense of fulfillment that comes from keeping others safe from harm. Not to mention he also has his mate thanks to the Order Radiant.
It is truly the one downside of Hasuran's role as the Dawn Chaser, not being able to spend more time with Sabria. She is the Dusk Watcher, Hasuran's opposite, and when he retires for the evening, she ascends the central spire to take his place. Every three days, acolytes of the Luminaries replace them for a single shift each, allowing them respite together, but that fragment of time never feels like nearly enough.
Then again, eternity with Sabria would not satisfy Hasuran. Each morning, he sings lullabies from the spire until he sees the curtains of their shared quarters draw closed against the light. And come evening, he serenades all the keep until those curtains slide open once more.
The Luminaries may have given Hasuran purpose, but that pales in comparison to the love he and Sabria have given one another. Ultimately, he keeps watch for her safety, her benefit.
May the Lightweaver forgive him for being young and in love.
