A gift given to her when she was considered stable enough to join the Shadowguard, the Grasps help her feel less alone.

Even now, Drone struggles sometimes to think of herself as an independent entity; this journal is where she writes out her thoughts.

When Drone dissociates, this mirror is what she looks at to remind herself that she exists.

Used to sleeping in piles of Hive dragons, independence was a jarring shift. This cuddly toy was a gift and remains a comfort.

PERSONALITY

Curious and yet nervous, Drone is still adjusting to her independence. While she struggles less with it now than she originally did, it is still often daunting to her, the freedom she has regained as the Hive infection has been stripped from her. It is perhaps unsurprising she tends to seek out Sentinel for company - the clan's other previously-Hive dragon - but she is increasingly making use of her independence, even if only hesitantly.

As she recovers from her traumatic past and relearns what it is to be free and no longer shackled to the Hive, Drone enjoys things she thought lost with a childish glee.

ABOUT

Drone was never meant to survive. Born and raised as a part of the Hivemind, Drone does not have the means to become a separate nucleus for a new hive. Separated from mother and kin, she should have died.

That she did not... well, for that she blames the unwanted kindness of the clan of Tethys, the clan which now houses her, which has given her a Foo for company, which feeds her and clothes her and has taught her... how to be her. Not a drone of the Hive but a dragon, who just so happens to be called Drone.

She's not sure she likes it.

She misses the voices of her parents, of her siblings, of the Hive. The myriad voices and strengths, over and over, the baseline wavelength that connected them all. The thousands of pages of knowledge that she could tap into at a moment's notice. A single entity, as a small part of something greater.

She realises now that the only reason she survived alone at all, is that her parents were dragons before assimilation, and that enough of that dragonish self came through in her. Some small mind - maybe that is why she was lost and discarded by the Hive. To see if she had strength enough to survive alone, to convert others, and, if not, to see her dead.

Well, she thinks now. If they had wanted her dead, they should not have let her be found by a clan with such researchers. Aerugosanguis is curt, but he knows his work. Nosoi is sure of her own failure, but is certain of the success of others. Pleurisy... Pleurisy is dedicated, she will say that. He has become almost a father to her, and Pestilentia almost a mother, as they tease out the parts of her that are dragon and give her a self to belong to.

She doesn't like being alone, Drone. But with the clan, she doesn't have to be.

RELATIONSHIPS

Sentinel | Hivemate

Taken in and pried from the Hive shortly after Drone herself, these two struck up a close friendship, the last remnants of their Hive infection allowing them to mentally connect. They remain close companions and a post-Hive support network for one another, in the long, slow and often messy process of recovery.

Pleurisy | Surrogate Father

The dragon in charge of the de-infection process for Drone on her arrival to the clan, Pleurisy was kind, calm and gentle with her as he worked and directed others to work. To this day, Drone considers him a father figure.

Pestilentia | Surrogate Mother

As Pleurisy worked to free Drone's body, Pestilentia helped to free Drone's mind, encouraging her to try new things and venture into her new freedom. It was Tia who assured Drone that she could choose to keep her name, and Drone considers her a mother figure.

Stagnum | Beloved Mentor

Even free, Drone does not always know what to do with freedom. Stagnum's firm direction and clear purpose helps her, and she finds peace working in his Shadowguard.

DRONE | The Dread Horror

The ancient and Ancient Drone found in the Deep Catacombs beneath the clan, Drone dreads DRONE as a reminder of how easy it would be for her and Sentinel to revert.
