Jenna

Whenever the weather grew cold, Jenna liked to take off for ice fishing over the ice flows & bergs on the outskirts of the Southern Icefield. On her last sojourn, her den mates warned her of foul weather coming, but the sun was out and the air so crisp, she laughed at their caution and flew off into the cloudless sky. Hours later, their words came back to her as she flew through the dense fog, thicker than any cloud, seeking some kind of landmark that would guide her safely home again. As darkness fell she spied a ledge and landed, exhausted. She immediately curled up to rest; she could make a plan when the morning sun burned off the fog and she could take her bearings.


Morning brought a diffuse light through the mist, but not the heat or brightness of the sun. A breeze had thinned the fog so that Jenna could see she had spent the night on an iceberg of immense size. She could hear waves far below her. The wind picked up, shifting the fog in streams and gusts, and as the air cleared, Jenna saw cliffs in the distance ahead of her. She took flight toward the cliffs and was instantly born upwards along the stream of air. The winds grew stronger, so she turned sideways to the wind, staying low where the gusts were weaker. By the time she landed on the cliff's edge, the gales above her were a roaring crescendo. Even as that thought passed her mind, she remembered a tale from her childhood, something about dragons who lived in the center of a tornado...


Folding her wings to alleviate the buffeting from the wind, she turned away from the ocean waves and there it was, not even a mile away from where she perched on the sea cliffs: the Twisting Crescendo. She had unknowingly traveled to the Windswept Plateau.
