The twinkling stars all around reflected brightly in the wide golden eyes of young dragon. Where am I? How did I get here? Her feathers lifted gently as if in a breeze as she moved her head to look at the void beneath her. The hatchling had a strange sensation of a distant icy coldness, and it seemed to her that she should probably be afraid. Or indeed, terrified. Instead, what she felt instead was a warm glow of something more than accomplishment. It was like waking up.. or coming home.

She had vague memories of a place full of heat and light, immense pressure and yet total emptiness, but nothing concrete. Something that she realized was amusement bubbled up in her chest as she pondered her existence. Well. Something tells me that this situation may be rather unorthodox. The youngling reached out a claw toward an especially bright point of light and felt a jolt of startled excitement as a bright glow flowed around her forearm and then along her body, taking the form of strange shapes-

-and then everything changed.

As the luminous teal glyphs faded from sight, the hatchling gave a gasp of delight. Floating nearby was a gargantuan ball, vibrant blue and green with swirls and streaks of a soft white. She leaned closer with intense interest, resting her head upon her forepaws as her hind legs stretched out behind her, and studied it with curiosity and pleasure at its visual appeal. After a few moments, however, her feathers ruffled with shock and discomfort as a voice echoed around her.

"Hello, Tesserect. We've been awaiting you."

A form blinked into being around her- a massive, sinuous, scaled body that ended in an antlered head with ancient, wise eyes. That head lowered until one kindly eye was lined up with the tiny dragon. "You have much to learn, and the Order of Kinari will teach you." It reached out toward her with a massive clawed paw, stopping a few feet away and turning it palms-up in an inviting gesture. After a few moments of consideration, the young dragon tilted her head with a smile, then climbed aboard.

. The Order of Kinari is an ancient sect of space-time mages and magical researchers dedicated to solving the mysteries of the cosmos. Nearly all were born in nebulae- instead of matter coalescing into a star, on the rarest of occasions it forms a being of great power. Tesserect, Tess for short, is one of these.

Countless years and unspeakable distances trickled idly though the young dragon's claws as she spun the portal around in her forehands, her eyes fixed on the amorphous glowing shape but yet dreamily distant. Time meant nothing to those who it didn't touch, but she knew abstractly that she had been waiting for this moment for an unfathomably long time. Soon, she would be called before the elders of the Order, who would evaluate her suitability for independent research and discovery. The summons came suddenly, yet also predictably- after all, she has just seen it arrive a few.. minutes? weeks? years? She shook her head amusedly. The units of time meant nothing, but she had seen the summons arrive in her time rift.

Reaching out a dainty claw, she expertly ripped a precise slice in the fabric of the universe and stepped through. It was her time to shine.
