xxxxxxx Trilla was a hunter. A cunning, ambitious assassin whose cruelty was only matched by her intellect. She reveled in the chase, in taunting her targets, in exposing and exploiting their pathetic weaknesses. A vicious joy filled her as they surrendered to despair and hope died in their eyes.

Like it had once in hers.

Occasionally, an errant thought ghosted at the edge of her mind. She was not born this way; this is not who she is.
This is who she was made to be.
It couldn’t be undone.
…right?

Could she ever return? Was redemption beyond her grasp, something for others to achieve? No, redemption wasn’t some golden goose upon a pedestal. It was something you toiled for. Would it be worth the trouble? What could she gain out of it? A word rang in her head. Atonement.

Trilla was a hunter and she still is, in many ways. But now she stalks along a path of atonement in search of something more elusory: redemption, purpose…herself, perhaps. It is a long and winding path, but unlike her first harrowing journey into the unknown, this time she has chosen it. And this time, she is not alone. Those that she once saw as enemies are there for her with kind and patient voices, steady claws and open hearts.
She’s not sure she deserves them, but they are there nonetheless. And so she walks the path, no end in sight. But maybe…just maybe, she hopes there will be something worthwhile found along the way.
