Trico

To most people, Trico is the adorable friend in The Last Guardian. he's terribly cute and you can't help but love him (the ending of the game had me dead, this is my ghost). For me though, my Trico is more than just a fandragon of a popular character. A lot more.

When I joined Flight Rising, it was with a group of friends, at the pressure of other friends. We all joined during the last welcome week into the lightning flight and it was a good time. We'd voicechat on discord for hours, talking about anything as we played fairgrounds minigames, tried the coliseum, and just learned fr together.

Eventually, my best friend and I learned about subspecies and fandragons. She and I had been best friends for a while, basically as long as we knew each other. We texted nonstop, shared the same huge friend group, helped each other when we were going through bad depressive episodes... we even went through Overnightwatch together (JSE fandom what's uuuuuuuuuup). This girl was my favourite person ever and the first person I'd tell about anything good that happened.

When she found out about fandragons, she immediately wanted to make one of Trico; one of her favourite characters of one of her favourite games (if you check her lair, there's actually a female imperial named Trico still there). It was then that I made a promise that I would breed the perfect Trico for her.

What eventually happened was... not good. I still don't really even know what happened. She and I were talking and making jokes like normal, sharing memes and just being dumb. And then she disappeared. Deleted her discord server, left our friendgroup server, ignored me and anyone else who tried to talk to her... She'd done stuff like that before when she got really depressed and needed a break from everything, so I left her be.

That was when everything went downhill.

A day or so later, another friend told me that she had been trashing us in the Overnightwatch server. I went to see what she'd said, only to find that I'd been banned from the server, along with a few others who weren't super involved in our main friendgroup. To this day, I still have no idea what she said about me in there. According to the friend who told me, a protection squad had been built around her, to keep her "safe" from me and my other friends. This mainly consisted of them going anon on tumblr and sending us death threats.

It took months for everything to calm down and return to normal. I don't really know why, but I began breeding for Trico again, after setting the project aside while dealing with the fallout of what happened. I bought gene scrolls and apparel for him (the armour set was the closest thing I could find to his in-game armour).

I think, after the way she left everything, I needed to finish it. I made her a promise back when we were friends, and I needed to fulfil it, for myself. I guess you could call it my attempt at closure.

And now, after too many months of breeding and spent gems, here he is.
