Traitorous heart leads him astray

Being the partner of one of the Triumvirate, and being the Guildmaster of the Company that trades outside the Clan gives Kain a great deal of power, and he knows when to use it. Quiet though he is, he uses words as weapons, and he a master-at-arms. A well placed barb in the right ears to carry to another Clan, causing inner strife and keeping them away from a deal, a whisper to a comrade, overheard and muttered amongst spies, leading to false conclusions and wasted resources. Few can win in a game they don't know they're playing, and Kain is always playing.
Originally sent to either retrieve Hariti, or eliminate a lost asset, when she could keep up with him in The Game, and even best him if he didn't watch his step, he became intrigued. Wanting to see what gained her loyalty in the Clan, he stuck around. Unfortunately, he didn't inform his 'superiors' of his change in plans, and when they found out, more Retrievers were sent to the Clan. The Clan helped him fight off the recurring attempts at retrieval, and, confused and bewildered (though he would admit to neither), he confronted Riley on why. The response? He was Clan now, and that was enough reason.
Now, although Kain may not have loyalty to the Clan, he has loyalty to a few select individuals in the Clan, and that is enough to keep him there. He restricts himself and his games to those outside the Clan, and teaches his Sparrows how to recognized when someone is playing, and how to pretend not to play while winning all along.
