Biography
Beloved mate to Imani
Imani is a leader who celebrates resilience and conquering our own inner weaknesses, at least to a point where they don't show. To encourage practice of this, she likes to 'test' those around her, which might seem cruel from the outside looking in. But in the culture she hails from, it's a sign of respect. Like saying "I believe in you enough to think it's worth it to help you be strong".
So I imagine that the one she chooses as her mate would embrace this cultural oddity and return it in kind. "I love you" would be spoken with teeth instead of words, and it would be exactly how she'd want it.
It would be a bit of an adjustment for him, though, at least at first. But as he learns more about this captivating creature he has come to admire, he would grow to understand her ways. They'd make sense to him, in an odd sort of way. Backwards, but.. with a rationality that speaks to him. Why wouldn't we want to help those we love be the strongest versions of themselves? Hmm... I wonder...

The First Move
The kiss of the noonday sun teased its warmth from behind a spattering of thick clouds, hanging heavily in the cooling sky and made fat with impending rain. The clouds seemed to be testing the sun's determination; An excellent sign, thought the little raven dragon as he watched the subject of his admiration attempting to enjoy what she could of the warmth. She often enjoyed bathing in the sunlight, there upon her favourite rock, and with the promise of rain lingering in the autumn air, this might be her last chance to for a while.
...It might be his last chance, too.
His fangs seemed to almost itch with protest within his jaws. To sneak up and bite the alpha? Every fiber of logic within his being screamed against it; such an act went against everything he had ever learned. But he had come to know Imani well, these past few weeks. There would be no better way to show her all that he had come to feel. Admiration of her strength, a fondness for her generosity, as backwards as it might have at first seemed. She was a mother to her people, albeit a challenging one to have. And he had always been one to enjoy a challenge.
As she twisted about upon her rock, trying to get the most of the dappled sunlight, the shadows obscured his raven-feathered body until it was upon her. A leap! The splaying of claws, the flashing of fangs! The great alpha Imani was sent sprawling from her natural throne, replaced by his looming figure. Although his bones rattled with terror at what he had just done, his eyes remained cold and hard. Show no fear. This is your chance.
A thunderous snarl ripped through the silence as she leapt to her feet, wings splayed and fangs exposed. But what was this... A smile?
The game was on.

That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
