Whisper's birth clan in the Beacon of the Radiant Eye has always been on good terms with Beta, who supplies the prestigious Light clan with basic necessities (and a few more unusual items) in exchange for access to their archives and social connections. Like many members of his clan, Whisper toured Beta's facilities during a few trading trips. Outside of his visits, however, he dedicated little thought to the strange scientists living out their exile in the Sea of a Thousand Currents-- and certainly never imagined a scenario in which he would come to join them.

This came to change when Whisper developed a rather unusual hobby for his clan of ivory tower scholars - alchemy. An encounter with his (then) fellow Pearlcatcher Baldwin at Sornieth's premier Trading Post sparked an enduring interest for Whisper. Quickly falling behind on his more traditional archival duties, Whisper found himself experimenting more and more in his free time with whatever materials his clan left lying around. When one of these experiments resulted in one of his clanmates changing into a Bogsneak - unknowingly and unwillingly - he was quickly shipped off to Beta with strained smiles and barely disguised panic.

Despite not choosing to work for Beta, Whisper was pleased by the warm welcome he received from Beta's small alchemy division. Though he rarely applies to run his own experiments, he can be frequently found assisting Morrigan in her experiments in transformation. It helps that he knows for a fact he can't accidentally turn her into a Bogsneak.
