Dark, too dark to see, too much darkness. There is no end, only dirt and stone. How did I end up here? Why did I end up here? I just kept wondering, the black void never seems to end. I twisted, I turned, I flew as fast as I could in the only direction that had no barrier – and yet, there was no end. It felt like hours before I stopped, dipping my head to touch the ground, but a nagging voice in my head told me to power on. I picked myself back up and continue, my muscles protested, my stomach started to swim – causing unwanted sickness.

Why is there no light? Where is the light! The hope I held onto was slipping from my claws, I couldn’t find an exit. Too many questions burned into my head. Once again, I collapsed, my body shutting down. It was unexpected, I went chin first into the dirt, dust kicked up – I exhaled quickly, not wanting to breath it in. I laid there, in the lonely, soundless dark. With my eyes slowly closing. A thought came into mind, I was certain if they were ever open in the first place? Unsure whether I was going to get up again, I let my mind go blank. The overflowing questions buried under the unusual calmness. Why am I accepting this? Is my body finally giving up?

A soft peck startles me. My whole body shook with adrenaline as I quickly got to my feet. Eyes shooting open, I let out a small gasp as I tiny dull blue firefly come into my vision. It was barely the size of my nail, but it rested its self on the bridge of my noses. I almost flinched when more fireflies began to appear from the walls. It took a few seconds to realize that the fireflies had nested themselves on the cave walls. As each one awakes and moves, it causes the others around it to do the same.

I was amazed as I watched hundreds and hundreds of them light up, causing a chain effect. Every one of them causes a wave of blue light. In a matter of seconds, the whole cave was lit up with dull blue. I couldn’t help but smile, a wide grin pasted on my face. This is the hope I need, with fresh adrenaline travelling through me. I began my journey back to the surface, I started in the direction where the fireflies were denser.

As I flew, the tunnel got wider and wider. I got more excited, I twisted around, performing little tricks that were filled with my joy and happiness. Every so often, my body would brush against the walls, only to have fireflies cling to me. I pay no mind to them; the freedom was too close. Nothing else was going to stop me.

I saw a bright light appear at the end, the black void thinned as the light came into view. I reached in a matter of seconds, my heart almost bursting from my chest. The warm, light engulfed me as I exited. As my vision cleared, I scanned my surrounding. The place in front of me was in different shades of blue and purples. Glowing mushrooms sprouting from every living thing – trees, moss and the ground.

I shot my head up, looking at the sky. It was the same darken shade of purple but it was clear that it was the sky. Millions of tiny white stars shone back down on me, I smiled to myself. I never thought I was going to see the sky again. Tears formed in the corner of my eyes, fearing to break. However, they weren’t tears of sadness or fear, they were tears of joy.

Hello? Are you okay?” A soft voice broke the silence, the voice sounded so soft. It was music to my ears. I never thought I was going to see another dragon again.

I slowly turned around to face a, white dragon. Her body spotted with dots, my eyes narrowed at how bright she was, even in the blue glow of the mushrooms, the dragon seemed to radiate white light.

“A-ah, yes...” My voice was unusually deeper than I thought, I tasted the roof of my mouth, only to realize how dry it was. My eyes met the white dragon’s, her own blue stared back at me.

“Good!” She sounded very happy, she slowly crouched down to be eye level with me. She was a taller than I am. “Now, are you lost by any chance? You seem to be not around here.” She pointed out, her bright blue eyes never breaking eye contract.

I ponder. It was true, the last memory that surface from my mind was that of light, blue skies and an ocean. It was clear I was high above in the sky, I don’t ever remember this place. I didn’t know where I am, or who I am. The look on my face told my reply, my face twisted in confusion.

“Well, you can come along with me, young one” She excitedly announced, standing up straight. Before I could reply, she continues, “Do you have a name?”

Nothing popped into my head, so I shook my head. She looked a little trouble by my answer, her eyes trailing up and down as she scanned me. Then her face lit up with a bright smile. She gave me a name. One that I will always remember, and never forget.

“Luciole!”
