A blood-red shadow slips behind a corner. Two knives fly true and sink into their target’s back. The victim didn’t even have time to scream. Hades steps over the dead body and reaches into the stranger’s cloak to retrieve a memento– proof that the murder has been completed. He settles for a golden watch on a chain, inscribed with the wearer’s name. This bounty was worth a fortune. As his purse grows in size, the crimson Spiral slips farther into depravity. He is the monster that stalks the night. He is the poison in the bloodstream of the city. He is Hades, ruthless mercenary, and he will always complete his kill.
Hades has been doing mercenary work for as long as he can remember. Even when he was a hatchling, he’d run shady errands for nobles so he could make an extra gold or two. He is fully in the pocket of the loyalty and he wouldn’t have it any other way. To follow the land’s wealthy lords is to amass wealth for oneself. This is his motto. His only motivator is money and he will do absolutely anything for profit. He has no friends since he’s double-crossed everyone he has met at some point or another. He doesn’t mind, so long as his coffer stays full. Hades is a hunter through and through. He refuses to listen to the bleeding hearts of the city, instead focusing on his own personal goals. He hopes to someday become richer than the loyalty itself. If amassing wealth means slitting a few throats, so be it. It’s not like the thieves are any better.
Speaking of thieves, Hades’ most recent assignment is the slipperiest trickster in the entire kingdom: Zack, the leader of a gang of thieves. Rumors are running rampant about the thief king. Some say that he has robbed the wealthiest and greediest lords in the land. Others whisper that he’s stolen goods from other thieves– namely, members of the Night Stalkers. Hades doesn’t care much about why dragons are hunting Zack. He only cares about the gold he’ll receive if he’s able to complete the job. And there’s the rub. The mercenary has been chasing after the sneaky Mirror for months with nothing to show for his efforts. He can’t even find Zack, let alone corner him and take him down. His benefactors are beginning to grow frustrated. Hades himself is at his wits’ end. Perhaps a more delicate approach is required. Perhaps if he tries to falsely befriend a member of Zack’s gang and infiltrate their ranks, he’ll gain access. He only needs to make contact. After that point, it should be a cakewalk. He has to do more research on Zack’s clanmates to ensure he selects the correct target. Otherwise the king of thieves will catch wind of his schemes and whisk away into the night once more.
Hades lusts after gold because he did not come from money. In his youth he was a worthless street urchin begging on corners for crusts of bread. He hated it. Hated watching wealthier dragons waltz by in their jewels with no treasures to call his own. Hated shivering through the freezing cold nights with only a scrap of cloth for a blanket. When he got a little older, he vowed to work his way up through the ranks until he was the richest lord in the land. No matter what, he would amass a fortune. These days, his goals are very much the same. He doesn’t care about how many former friends he has to stab in the back to get there. Wherever the river of money flows, Hades will follow. He is the greediest dragon on the continent and nothing will stop him from acquiring his prize.
