Biography
Gentle and mild-mannered, Charin sometimes jokes that if she'll never have kits of her own, she'll mother the whole of the Aerie in their place. At once, she is much more than this; if Ckivsil is the Aerie's claws, Charin is its eyes and ears and voice in the world. She is its spymaster, its messenger, its herald; face and fury in the Cinderslag and in the Great Furnace, something just left of legend as the Aerie itself.

Charin is the head of the Scorchsky Aerie's spy ring, a nameless, secretive organization even within the notoriously myth-shrouded clan. Besides its own members, only the Indomitables are aware of its existence- even the guild leads have been kept in the dark for centuries.
That is not to say that no one is aware something is going on; Charin's spies have other jobs within the clan, after all, and the true reasons for their sometimes sudden solo excursions is hidden deep beneath a web of lies and misdirections.
Intelligence is a bitter, thankless job- and it's caused strife in more than one relationship over the years. It is the only secret Kirven keeps from Lauriel, and though most of the time she can breathe through it, it still bites when her partner comes home scratched and bruised and refuses to explain why. Siresh and Eisuke, once dearest of friends, can no longer look one another in the eye since Siresh began running intelligence on trips that take him away from Aerie territory for weeks on end.
Charin knows full well the difficulty the need for secrecy has caused. But it is necessary, as her clan charges headlong into a bright new future- because where there is light there are shadows, and where there are shadows someone must patrol them. Her spies knew this going in. Their war, after all, is everlasting.
