Papaver is an amateur botanist. He's loved plants since he was just a hatchling, and he can't help but delight over each new plant he gets to see in person. He leads the clan's foragers, and makes sure they never take too many individuals from any one population. He's tried to grow plants himself, but he always gets distracted and forgets to water them (or overwaters them), so he leaves the tending of the gardens to Anastatica on land and Daphne in the water.
In many ways he is the antithesis of his namesake - he always seems filled with life, and is rarely sitting or standing still.

Papaver is the poppy genus. In Greek mythology, the poppy was associated with Demeter, goddess of fertility and agriculture. People believed they would get a bountiful crop if poppies grew in their fields. Early Greek accounts suggest the plant was used for euthanasia; on some Greek islands, women used it in old age to shorten the time left until natural death.
