He was born during the worst blizzard they'd seen in years. The very air around them seemed to freeze, and his mother knew her nest would not survive in this cold, no matter they were blessed by the Icewarden. All on her own, she tried to bring them to safety, but the storm did not let her leave that easily. The wind and the snow slowed her down, and the cold crept through her body until every move hurt - until she crashed into the mountain.

He was the lucky one, they said. While his brother's egg cracked during the fall, leaving the hatchling completely exposed to the harsh environment, his shell endured. He survived the crash, and the hours that followed. With his mother's warmth wrapped around him, he survived the worst.

But even years later, as if still somehow remembering this sensation of falling, he cannot stand heights. Fear keeps him on the ground, and his father's disapproval kept him from learning how to be what he had been expected to become: an assassin. He could not fight, he could not kill. Unalaq, as they soon learned, had other talents.

He was a healer. A mage. A dragon so different from the rest of his clan, he knew he would never be able to stay here forever.
