Smiley is a dragon who isn't as threatening as one would expect. He's intimidating in appearance, with a constant smile, dead-looking eyes, and sharp pointed wings, but his manner is polite. It would never be expected that he would have the job of a punisher, as he tries his best to remain courteous and considerate. In fact, if no one is listening, he'll even reveal a small secret; he heavily dislikes his job, and hates to harm others. It's assumed Smiley can't quit due to his fear of Coriander, and the threat she may pose if he disobeys. So, without any other option, he's forced to follow her orders, even if the guilt eats him alive.
His real name is a mystery, and he refuses to share it, due to an urban legend his original home had; when a name is shared, it has the possibility of being stolen, and therefore one's identity could be stolen as well. Due to this, nobody from his original home ever shared true names, only giving nicknames.
Smiley's constant smile originates from a curse, although he would not disclose details on how he obtained it. The only facts known are his smile, his unusual ability to work with metal and it's effects on his bladed wings, along with the fact that eventually, the curse will kill him, as it has done to others in one way or another. The cause of death, however, is unknown.
