Biography

He was born into royalty, the second son of the king and queen of the kingdom of ____(I'm still thinking up a name otl). As with many kingdoms, the royal family was attacked by a rivaling one and the entire family was slain, with only the youngest fledgling -Kenya- escaping at his mothers behest.

He fought tooth and nail to stay with his mother, father and brother, but his mother forced him to leave, pleading for him to escape and continue living. When asked why they couldn't leave with him, she told him that if they all ran they would all get caught, and if only he managed to run, the three remaining would be able to hold them back long enough so that he found freedom.

Out of a family and out of a home, the young Kenya lived in the streets, begging for scraps while hiding his appearance in ratty clothes. Not as well known as his brother had been, it was easy for him to go by unnoticed. Seeing nothing left for him in the city, he left.

Beyond the walls he found beauty in the nature that surrounded him, the deserted lands full of sand, greenery in scattered locations like safe heavens among the sea of gold. He met a group that traveled the lands and mined stones and gems. Finding it fascinating, he requested t join them. Thinking the young Kenya adorable, and wanting to keep the fledgling safe, the group took him under his care.

Kenya found a family in these men and women, and flourished their care, learning their ways and growing into himself. He left them to travel by himself once older.

In his travels he learned that the kingdom that could have once been his was fine. It was thriving under the new rule, and though he could despise them for what they did to his parents and the many lives lost in the overthrowing, he could not begrudge them the way they ruled.

He returned to the kingdom many times throughout the years in his travels alone, and met Casim, who found him fascinating and fun to tease. The two grew close, or as close as one can when one travels as often as he does.

Mining one time with other miners, Kenya had an accident which resulted in his opal gene, which he had not had prior. This helped in keeping his person a secret from any that may still be hunting the missing young prince of the former king and queen.

Short story by- Sylvpix

The sensation of falling was so unfamiliar that Phthonus had been confused at first. Then his head cracked against hard stone, and he tasted metal in his mouth from where he had bitten his tongue. He winced, putting his claws to his head. They came away red, and he let out a hiss of pain. His head throbbed with waves of pain and Phthonus blinked away the dust and blood that had run into his eyes.
His vision swam with black, and he stumbled, crashing into a rock wall. A bluish glow filled his eyes, but as he haltingly moved forward towards the glow, Phthonus felt his legs give out from under him as he sank into unconsciousness.
"He's been unconscious for two days now... is he going to wake up?"
"I don't know. Maybe he'll die soon."
"That's a horrible thing to say! Get out!"
Phthonus sluggishly opened his eyes. He felt like he had been hit with a boulder. Every part of his head ached, and he noticed that fresh linen bandages were wrapped around his head.
"Oh! You're awake! It was a very bad fall- good thing you survived!"
A dragon was sitting at his bedside holding a tangle of bloodstained bandages.
"Though, when we found you... uh... were you always this... shiny?"
Phthonus frowned, and tried to talk but his cracked throat refused to make any noise. He paused, and looked at his claws.
A smooth brown substance like glass coated his arms, a blue sheen sparking off them. His eyes widened. The dragon next to him seemed to notice his distress, and quickly leapt forward.
"Calm down- relax. We don't know how it happened either. We think it's something that happened in the hour or two in which you were out cold..."
Phthonus stared at the dragon, then back at himself. There was a sort of buzzing in his mind, like static. This couldn't be happening.
