Biography
Empyrean meant to go and serve the Arcanist as he'd been bid. He'd taken off with the other hatchlings chosen for that great honor, he'd flown the ceremonial patterns, he'd said his good-byes.
And then he'd gotten distracted. He hadn't meant to, but they'd run into a large cloud of golden migrating butterflies, beautiful and delicate. The others in his flight managed to avoid the mass, but Empyrean had been caught up in the ever-shifting patterns of the clouds around him and seen it too late, and so he'd been caught right in the middle.
The lovely little creatures felt like dew against his skin and seemed to dance on the air currents in magical ebbs and flows he simply could not resist watching. By the time he'd emerged the other hatchlings had disappeared and Empyrean was hopelessly lost.
Honestly, he didn't mind. While he knew he should have been thrilled to have been chosen to serve, life in the Arcanist's tower was not the one he would have chosen--not with so much beauty and wonder to be explored in the world beyond those walls.
But, he couldn't return home. Not only would it disgrace his family, but Empyrean had no idea how to get back there. So, he did the next best thing: he found some birds and followed them. Eventually, they would pass over lands where dragons laired. He'd see about making a new home there.
In the meantime, he flew in loop-de-loops and sweeping arcs. There was so much to see and he was determined to experience it all.
