Ever since Runemist was a young hatchling, she had been obsessed with the arcane arts. She always longed for the day that she would learn, despite her parents telling her magic was "useless" and "a waste of time". Despite this, her parents supported her when it got to the point they realized they could not change her mind. they bought her a 'pet' as they called it. But that 'pet' became her familiar, her friend. She named it Aurora due to its mane. Soon after, her parents took her to an old dragon with many years experience. She hated this dragon, at first, thought she was an old kook. But she would soon realize that she was more than that...

Through the years she was with Aztral, the old kook, she grew steadily fond of her and grew a strong relationship. She taught her the basics of magic, as well as some more flight oriented ones. After a lot of fails and bruises, she mastered them. Her progress always impressed her parents and most of the clan. One day Rune mist arrived at Aztral's place, only to find it abandoned except for a single cloak the one Aztral always wore. After this day Runemist kept practicing increasing her magic skill, until one day her parents thought her ready. They sent her off to Starfall Isles.

Before sending her off, they game her a parting gift. A guise, one that matched the cloak she wore. She was told to complete the set, to reunite the old magics. Soon after, she was off, flying toward the Starfall Isles. She had dreamed of this day, wanting to find out from the best of teachers. Although no one could surpass Aztral, in Runemist's mind. Over her long flight, she recalled the many lessons Aztral had taught her, preparing to be with some of the best magic dragons alive.

Runemist glided from branch to branch, keeping her body close to the midnight trunks as she stalked her prey. It was an easy enough task, but she liked to make games out of her duty to feed the clan to satisfy her mind while she was on the hunt, picturing she was really trying to stalk an enemy dragon that had wandered into their territory. It set the shards of arcane on her back prickling in anticipation, luckily concealed by the soft tinkle the fungi around her made as they moved on a phantom breeze.

Shadow Flight was devastatingly treacherous for those not born into the darkness. More often than not, most dragons that wander into their territory were merely lost, and Runemist had to quell her fighting urge to formally escort them to wherever they were trying to go. She wasn’t bloodthirsty by any means, she just enjoyed the rush of adrenaline she got whenever she hunted or stalked.

Maybe a little bloodthirsty…

It didn’t matter anyway. It only mattered whether she got her job done or not. Runemist looked down from the branch she was crouched on, baring her teeth silently at the sight of her prey - a large black squirrel, native to Shadow Flight and a common source of food for her clan. It was currently snuffling between a clump of electric blue mushrooms to look for any nuts to scavenge. This was her chance!

Now that it wasn’t paying attention to its surroundings, she crept on shadowed claws to the end of her branch, leaning precariously over the edge to find she was directly above her quarry. Perfect. Testing her balance to the limit, Runemist wound her body around the end of the branch until she was completely upside down, watching for an opening that would allow her to drop and seize the squirrel for herself.

Just a few more seconds. Just… Now!

Runemist dropped, twisting her body around mid-air to land directly on top of her prey, clamping her jaws around its furry neck to make quick work of its life, breathing out slowly when she sensed it falling limp. A successful hunt. She grinned to herself around the fluff now in her mouth, extending her wings to take off back toward her clan, knowing she had hungry mouths to feed.
