Unfortunately the shrine that Minoo was born into was destroyed very early on, Minoo himself being so young during the incident that he can't even recall if it was a tragic accident, hostile intent, or a slow decay. Either way it left homeless and defenseless at a tender age. Left to fend for himself when he hardly had the means to do so. He became so scared of the world at his young age, that he ultimately lost his voice for quite some time. Unable to speak he had to create his own sign language, and eventually learn proper from others once he found a more stable environment.

That security came in the shape of Kazumi, someone who had been alive for much longer than himself and had a lot more to share and teach. At first it started with Minoo just hanging around him for shelter and a means to learn sign language proper. But then he started to learn other things from him too; He started learning basic medical information, basic first aid, how to communicate outside of sign, he learned to start enjoying life again, and even eventually got his voice back.

In his appreciation to Kazumi he's continued to stick by his side, learning more and more, leading the two to become very close and form a sort of teacher student relationship. Additionally, Minoo has decided to stay mute, despite getting his voice back. He feels as though he doesn't need to speak to show his appreciate for life and the people that have helped him to embrace it.
