THERE WAS ONCE A GREAT KINGDOM, a beloved kingdom, ruled by a benevolent king. This kingdom was ravaged by war, once so called allies taking advantage of the kindness of the king to take his lands for their own greed. Woundwart was but a hatchling when he was thrust upon his father's throne when his father was killed in battle. It was a battle his father knew he would not win, but it was a desperate bid to buy time for the kingdom's mages.
WOUNDWORT KNEW NOT THE WAYS OF WAR, nor the ways to govern a kingdom. Between meddling advisors and an encroaching invasion upon the capital it was time for desperate measures. The mages had finally managed to break into the magical leylines that ran under the kingdom. The only issue is that only those of royal blood could tap into this great power. Woundwort was still young, and many frowned upon his inexperience...but it was his duty as king to put his life on the line for his people, like his father had done. THERE WAS SOMETHING TRAPPED WITHIN THE LEYLINES. Something ancient and powerful, given it's first taste of freedom in a millennia through the tiny cracks in his cell. Baroldel, a demon bound by Woundwort's ancestors after their betrayal of a pact. It was enough for his influence—his voice—to seep through.
WOUNDWORT DID NOT TRULY UNDERSTAND what he had given away that day until years later. But a piece of him was lost in the path of destruction. The war was won, at a steep cost, and over the years that followed the tales that were told of a hatchling king that outsmarted the greatest of generals in a bloody battle became the songs of legend. HE WAS A KIND KING, despite the fact baroldel was whispering in the back of his mind for war he only used his powers when it was called for—and when it was he was a terrifying sight. The kingdom entered a new age of peace.
BUT ONE CAN NOT LIVE IN A FAIRY TALE FOREVER CAN WE...?
THE YEARS WORE ON AND ON and once Woundwort became an adult he never seemed to grow older. Ten years passed, twenty...he watched his friends, his advisors, his family... slowly lose their battle with time and age, even sickness. IT WAS THEN WOUNDWORT KNEW HIS PRICE. NO KING RULED FOREVER, his father had told him once, when he was but a hatchling but it appeared this was not true. He would watch as kingdoms rose and fell, he would watch all he knew change while he remained the same. Cursed with life and health everlasting to be a keeper for Baroldel. He was ruinous, tainted by the evil power that had saved them. HE WOULD DO IT AGAIN in a heartbeat if it kept his people safe—but there was no war to fight when strange sickness tore through his capital city. There was nothing to be done, no magic, no research.. nothing.. This was no ordinary sickness. A debt to be paid. One life for every one he took. Woundwort watched powerless, until he sat alone king of a kingdom of nothing. The ones who did not die, simply fled. WOUNDWORT THOUGHT HIS PENANCE WAS TO BE ALONE. and the castle and surrounding towns fell into disrepair. No one wanted to live in this cursed place and that suited Woundwort just fine, the less people knew of what happened here the better. He was not one to be remembered. They sung no more songs, the ink faded away on the stories.. EVENTUALLY THIS ONCE GREAT KINGDOM WAS FORGOTTEN for the longest of times, until a curious Wildclaw stumbled upon the ruins as if she knew they were there. but that is a story for another time..
