Biography
Seshat has always been a creative, organized dragon. She was the mind behind her siblings' games, conjuring up stories and plays for them to act out. She was the impartial mediator, the one whom her brothers went to for advice, despite her being the middle child. Spending most of her time studying or reading, she soon grew knowledgeable about many subjects. Anything requiring precise measurements became her forte.
---
It was a mistake, really. It wasn't like her at all. She had always been fully aware of her responsibilities in the past. She had already resigned herself to serving the royal family in every way possible, swallowing her emotions when she had to.
But here she was -- in child. And he wouldn't even know that he had children.
If the court knew -- if her parents knew -- she would surely be in for it. Terrifying images of hushed conversations behind her back raced through her mind, whispers of the scandal that the daughter of the king had gotten herself into, and hadn't she been such a good child in the past?
She would exalt them. She had to. The Windsinger would understand. She didn't even know what the exalted life would bring. Was it truly the holy life as folklore had it, or was it -- she dreaded to think -- simply a euphemism for euthanasia?
For many days she was exhausted, too preoccupied to pay attention to her studies. She complained of illness, saying that with rest and a little time she would surely feel better, but if for now she could take a break from her studies, would that be okay? By a stroke of luck, her tutor let her go.
One day she sat in the palace gardens, in a secluded area where she and her siblings used to play. Her nurse found her there, and in a rush of emotions, Seshat blurted out what had happened. Her nurse reassured her that all would be well.
And so the twins were born at the royal family's seldom-used summer home on an island near the Viridian Labyrinth. Their eyes were deep green.
---
She did not love them any less. They looked just like him -- handsome, cosmic in color, soft in face. She sang to them the lullabies her own nurse had sung to her, and she dusted their feathers and bathed them herself. She knew not how she would be able to care for them in the future, but for now she allowed her heart to have peace.
