Biography

Keeper of Shadows

Key Traits: Brave, Mercurial, Just

Theme: Staying - Koda

Inter-clan Allies: Alethios, Azlem, Saturn

Shrouded in mystery, Lovu hasn't yet told the rest of the clan his story. This imperial seems to have something very heavy hanging over him, as he can often be heard singing a song much like a lullaby in the darkest hours of the night. A talented singer, Lovu's voice lulls all of Saturn's family to sleep when they lie awake at night.

He has only told Saturn of his past, and has agreed to Salazar taking record of it. Here is his tale.

Lovu's parents were imperials just like him. They belonged to a wind clan. Their leader, Azlem, was Saturn's friend and ally. His father, Arwyn, was a beautiful imperial, with shimmering scales and a proud demeanor. Lovu's mother was a warm and loving imperial female named Kayka, Lovu has many happy memories of he and his siblings playing with their mother and sleeping in a pile on her. He was happy with his parents, and his siblings. In fact, they were the happiest Lovu has ever remembered being.

It happened just after the evening meal. Arwyn had just brought down an exceptionally strong elk, and had dragged it back to his mate and hatchlings. They all devoured the elk, and with full stomachs, promptly went to sleep. Before Kayka had even laid down after singing the babies to sleep with her soothing lullabies, a sound like a rock tumbling down the hillside came ringing from the dark forest.

Kayka listened intently to the sounds of the night. More rocks and logs being displaced could be heard far off into the trees. Fearing the worst, Kayka quietly made her way into the tree line to check for danger. As silently as she could, the imperial crept deeper and deeper into the woods towards the sounds. They seemed to move farther away with every step she took. Peering around, Kayka could see nothing in the blackness of the night. She took another step forward, but was stopped by the feeling of something very, very close to her.

Heavy breathing, raspy like the voice came from a throat that had been stuck in drought land for days, right by her ear. The voice chuckled deep in it's throat.

"We saw your mate drag that elk by here. It looked like a good meal, and my boys want some of it. We're gonna go pay a visit to your family, looks like you shouldn't have gone out into the dark scary forest all by yourself. I guess this is the last lesson you'll get to teach your boy!"

With that the shadowy dragon, a mirror, swiftly lunged for Kayka's neck; but the imperial was faster. She whipped her head around and got a deep bite on the smaller dragon's shoulder.

"Arwyn!" She screamed and roared, trying to warn her mate and her children to run. Her crying was cut off by the snap of her neck as a hulking guardian pounced on her.

Back at the camp, Arwyn heard the scream. Jolting out of sleep, the imperial jumped to his feet and looked around wildly. Kayka was in trouble, her roars were panicked and louder than he had ever heard her. Arwyn looked to his hatchlings to make sure they were safe, then ran towards the woods. A whimpering roar, followed by a sudden silence, made Arwyn stop.

She's dead He thought.

A brief moment of despair hit him. His body crumbled down into the dirt as he stared, an empty gaze down at the forest floor. His tail wrapped around him as he wept, but a sudden thought made his face harden and his eyes take on a stone cold look.

Protect the hatchlings.

Arwyn rose to his feet and turned around back towards the nest. Sprinting towards them, he quickly woke up the young.

"Alethios, Lovu, Kara, Rolune, all of you need to stick together, do you hear me? Don't lose sight of each other. All of you stick together, and run to Saturn's family, okay? You remember Saturn," the roars and cackles of the band of rogues was getting louder,"Get to Saturn, and tell her to send Chronicle and Xocolotl to find me, okay? I'm counting on you four, you can do this."

With that Arwyn kissed each of them on the tops of their heads and turned to face the gang of murderers.

Fanning his shimmering wings out to keep the hatchlings out of sight, he snarled viciously at them.

"Get out of here, go now!" he yelled to his children. Their small faces twisted in fear as their father appeared as a monster in front of them. They all four cowered back and didn't move.

Arwyn roared louder,"RUN. GET AWAY!" They finally seemed to understand, and Lovu, along with his three siblings, all ran North-East towards the Sunbeam Ruins.

Relieved to see them escaping, Arwyn focused now on the horde of ravenous beasts in front of him. The mirror, with his bleeding shoulder, seemed to be the leader, the bulky guardian was right behind him, and around them; pearlcatchers, wildclaws, and ridgebacks. None of them were as big as Arwyn was, without a single imperial in their group, none of them could handle him one on one.

He should have known they wouldn't fight fair like that. He knew he was going to die, against these monstrous things, but he knew he wouldn't let them catch up to his offspring.

Snarling on both sides, and some furious roaring from Arwyn made the forest echo with rage. The hatchling's small legs and weak wings had them stumbling through he trees. Lovu was ahead of the group, leading the way. He remembered the way to her lair the best out of his siblings, and they all scrambled behind him.

Arwyn beat his wings angrily, smacking any dragon nearby with them. He noticed the deep wound on the mirror's shoulder. Still bleeding, he knew it was fresh.

Arwyn deduced that none of his gang would have done that, but being so fresh, it only made sense to him that Kayka would have.

That's my girl He thought with a smile. In his head he pictured Kayka as he had seen her only a few minutes ago, vibrant and beautiful as she played with their children. Her bright smile was the main image on his mind, all he could think of was that smile...

"Hey, loverboy! Your b!tch gave me this gimp here," the mirror gestured to his shoulder,"That really p!ssed me off, but luckily Garmon was here to smack her off a' me." he gestured again to the big guardian that had been quietly waiting for his leader's command.

Arwyn's eyes burned with hate at what the mirror had called Kayka. His face contorted from the reminiscent smile to nothing but red fire burning at his features. His snarling grew louder, his claws dug into the ground furiously and his wings flapped even harder against the ground. His wings made loud thumping noises and clouds of dust fly up in the air, Arwyn's furious growling getting even louder and louder.

The mirror and his gang only laughed maliciously. They all hissed and taunted, encouraging him to attack.

Lovu could see the bright cave entrance ahead, up on the hill where Saturn and her family were. They were so close. Lovu looked behind him at his siblings. Rolune and Kara were falling behind, but Lovu's chirps of encouragement seemed to make them more enthusiastic.

"Only a little farther! We're almost to Aunt Saturn's house!" Lovu whispered to Alethios, his imperial brother. Alethios nodded and kept right by Lovu. His father's angry roars were now only a faint echo on the trees, which stood silently in the cool night. The warm glow of the cave entrance only made Lovu more desperate to reach them in time.

Arwyn was bleeding from a nasty bite in his hind leg, gushing more with each step, each dodge, and every lunge he made.

He was running out of time, Arwyn knew it. The gang would overpower him and kill him like they killed Kayka. Only Arwyn doubted they would be so courteous to make it quick. Kayka was a different story, they were still trying to maintain the element of surprise, but Arwyn would die slowly. It would be dragged out as long as the group could manage. The thought made Arwyn feel sick. He was scared out of his mind, but he continued to humor the swarm, he knew the hatchlings had to be close to Saturn by now.

The big guardian snapped at him. His teeth clicked on the edge of Arwyn's ears, barely missing the imperial's snout before he ducked. He was beginning to black out when the guardian tackled him to the ground. The leader had called this dragon 'Garmon' and he seemed to be pretty important to the mirror. Garman ceased his attack once Arwyn was securely pinned to the ground.

The mirror sauntered up next to the guardian and Arwyn.

"Didn't you know you were hunting on our turf, imperial?" the mirror asked,"That was incredibly rude, especially since we haven't seen an elk that big around for quite some time. Your intrusion just so happened to be the same time the biggest game happened upon our humble domain. I hate to do this to ya but we can't tolerate any more disturbances."

The mirror moved to slash at Arwyn's face, but the imperial shouted, halting him.

"Wait! You would do all of this...for one elk? You would kill my mate, nearly kill me, and threaten my children for one elk?!" Arwyn's voice was getting louder and angrier as he realized just how unreasonable these dragons really were.

The mirror smiled wickedly down at him.

"You got it."

The mirror's finishing move came too quick for Arwyn to even process it. A razor claw cut through the soft flesh of Arwyn's throat like lambskin. The imperial's body exploded into the powerful writhing of an ending life. His muscles found the hidden strength within them and threw the guardian off of itself. But it made no difference. Arwyn died looking to the glowing hills that he had sent his children in search of. His last thought was that of Saturn's lair, gleaming with a warm, golden light from within.

Garmon recovered from the toss. Raising up to stand next to his leader, he asked,"Where to now, boss?"

The mirror stared down at the imperial corpse. Contemplating.

"The hatchlings. Kill them, but leave one. I don't care which one you choose" He said.

Garmon turned back to his clan, barking orders at them. The other dragons ran howling and roaring through the dark woods in pursuit of the small hatchlings.

Lovu and his siblings were at the base of the hill upon which Saturn's lair was built. The mouth of the cave radiated light from inside. It shone in Lovu's eyes and gave him a warm feeling. He felt hopeful, knowing that Aunt Saturn would help him.

This hopeful feeling drained from Lovu as he heard the haunting calls from within the forest. They were so close. His brothers and sisters were so tired from the trip, but they summoned the last of their energy to scramble up the hill as fast as they could.

Garmon was the first to breach the edge of the trees. He quickly spotted the young dragons racing up the hill towards what looked like a clan lair.

"They don't reach the cave! Get them!" He bellowed. Six spirals shot out from the branches and took off toward their targets.

The spirals' were feet away from the hatchlings before a blast of light sent them careening off in every direction.

A massive guardian landed in front of the spirals, teeth bared and jaws open wide in an earth-shaking roar.

"Get away from my family!" She thundered.

Lovu and the others were being picked up and carried back to the lair before they even realized it. A skydancer in iron armor had Lovu and Alethios on his back while a tundra in an unnerving mask was carrying the other two to safety. As Lovu turned and looked back, he saw Saturn swatting a spiral out of the sky, and with the other paw she held another dragon pinned to the ground.

A large brown imperial seemed to come out of nowhere, landing next to Saturn and sending a mighty gust of wind toward the remaining spirals.

The imperial, Xocolotl, shouted over the gale,"Saturn! Where do you need me?!"

Saturn replied,"The forest! There's an entire clan of them!"

Xocolotl nodded and soared down the hill to the edge of the woods. Garmon, the leader mirror, and about 20 other dragons stepped forth from the trees.

"He is outnumbered!" Lovu screamed at the skydancer carrying him. Lovu smacked his small paws against Chronicle's head and shouted,"Help him!" over and over.

Chronicle looked behind him at Lovu. His amusement shone through his voice.

"I wouldn't worry about him, he has things completely under control." He smirked and set Lovu and Alethios down at the cave entrance before turning and jumping into the fray alongside Saturn.

Lovu started to chase after him but was held back by an extremely colorful female skydancer with sashes flung about every inch of her body.

"Stay here, little one. The others will take care of this." Her warm smile convinced Lovu to sit tight, though he kept a close eye on Xocolotl at the base of the hill.

The imperial looked around him at all the mangled, distorted faces growling at him from every direction.

Garmon stepped forward,"Where the hell's your team, your partner? You're all alone down here with us!"

Xocolotl said nothing in response to the guardian's taunt. Instead he flipped into the air and used his wind magic to summon a powerful tornado in the middle of the group.

Smaller dragons, spirals and pearlcatchers, were tossed violently apart. while the larger guardians were simply knocked to the ground. Xocolotl used the few seconds of confusion to quickly snap the necks of the spirals and flip the guardians into each other.

His movements were so sudden, in a flash the chests and throats of multiple dragons were shredded by his claws, and in a moment all but Garmon were slain on the grass.

The sky was blackening past the darkness of night. A powerful electric storm was brewing not far away, and rain began stinging the skin of every dragon. Lovu and the others watched from the dry warmth of Saturn's lair. The rain and the inky blackness of the night storm made the battle seem invisible. It was unnoticeable except for the sudden flashes of light magic and the roars of multiple dragons fighting at once.

The colorful skydancer that was sitting with the hatchlings, Cirque, spoke quietly to a small grey fae.

"Say, Salazar, where did this storm come from?" she asked.

The old fae looked behind him at the other members of the clan. He observed them, turning his head agonizingly slow until he had looked at them all.

"It appears... that Amadi is missing." He said finally.

"Of course, with his Lightning magic I bet he summoned this storm. Not that it seems to be helping our family out any." Cirque scanned the sky as a flash of lightning struck about a mile off.

"There he was! I saw him in the flash! This is definitely his storm." She said with a smile.

"He thinks he can control where the lightning strikes, but he is too inexperienced with his own magic. Still, I admire his fighting spirit," Salazar muttered.

Lovu stared up at the imperial in the eye of the storm, but his attention quickly turned back to Saturn and Chronicle. They had all but buried the forces of the murderous clan. In one fluid motion Chronicle snagged one last fleeing snapper and flung it backwards towards Saturn, who blasted it with a light beam.

The two warriors let out a breath that they had been holding for a while. They looked at each other with blood-soaked smiles.

"Are there any more of them?" Chronicle asked.

"Xocolotl is taking care of the group in the trees, but I believe there was a mirror with them, and I have yet to see his body." Saturn said as her eyes shifted from relief to worry again,"He must still be alive, he could be anywhere. Find him, Chronicle, please."

The skydancer nodded, bowing his head to Saturn before taking off into the rain again.

The guardian queen looked over the hillside. Xocolotl had wrestled Garmon to the ground, ripped his throat out, and had finished off the rest of the attackers in the forest. He too was on his way back to the lair like Saturn was. His headdress was dripping with blood, slowly being washed away by the rain of Amadi's storm. His green eyes were shining, but he said nothing to Saturn as he passed her. He only bowed his head.

Saturn huffed and turned to enter her lair. Passing Lovu and his siblings.

"You can go talk to her, she wants you to, she is just exhausted from the fight." Cirque pushed the little ones after Saturn,"Go on!" She said with a smile.

High above on the gusts of the storm, Chronicle soared in circles, searching for the mirror. When he didn't see him he rose to Amadi's elevation.

"End your storm, Amadi! I can't see a damn thing with all of these clouds!" He shouted over the screaming wind.

The imperial heard him, and suddenly the storm calmed. The clouds dissipated and the rain ceased. Amadi's lightning eyes dulled and he turned to Chronicle.

"Was I useful?" He shouted.

"You would have been if you could control those lightning strikes! Now help me find someone." Chronicle said.

A questioning look came over Amadi's face.

Back in the lair, Saturn was painfully removing her battle armor. Blood ran off of it and pooled on the floor as she removed it. Lovu, Alethios, Rolune, and Kara stepped closer to her as she removed the final piece of armor.

The hatchlings walked in slowly, unsure of what mood Saturn could be in. Lovu spoke first.

"Aunt Saturn? Somebody has to go back to my dad in the woods! Somebody has to save him! Send the big brown one!" He shouted.

Saturn looked at him with a sad smile. Lovu had no idea what it could mean, he knew his dad was still alive, his dad was big and strong.

"Lovu..." Saturn was unsure of how to say this to the hatchling,"Here in my field, my family would win against anyone, but out there, out in the forest, we are unsafe. We cant go there now, we cant go back and look for your parents."

Lovu's face fell,"But the brown one, he could fly with me, we could help my dad! He said I needed to send Chronicle and Xocolotl to help him, let me go with them! Please! Please help him!"

Lovu began to throw himself toward Saturn.

"You can't leave him there! You can't!" Lovu wailed. He beat his small fists on Saturn's legs, trying to make her understand.

What he didnt know was that she did understand, she knew for sure that Arwyn and Kayka were both dead. Xocolotl had reported to Saturn that the gang members had blood all over them before ever getting involved with them. All the hatchlings were accounted for, so where had the blood come from? There was no doubt in Saturn's mind that it came from the two adult imperials.
