Relationships

Ahlea - Tobias' first love and current mate. They are known to be very polite, respectful, and loving to each other while in the presence of others, never raising their voices or ignoring the other, though older members of the clan will say they used to be closer, physically and emotionally.

Matiron - One of Tobias' closest friends and allies, Matiron was the one to save his life and his clan by suggesting their migration, and is responsible for taking up the mantle and being a leader for the clan at the same time he was nursing Matiron back to health. Matiron and Tobias often confide in and comfort one another, and Tobias rarely makes a decision without getting Matiron's approval first.

Jasper - A former mate of Tobias and the Commander of his Guardian soldiers, the two were known to be close friends in battle before their relationship turned romantic, and they have had hatchlings together. Despite Ahlea's return, Tobias and Jasper's relationship remains a healthy friendship, and the clan's soldiers are usually unaffected by the slight awkward air that seems to gather whenever Tobias, Jasper, and Ahlea must be in the same room.

Zan and Ruugarth - Brothers in arms of Tobias, they are the ones he travels and fights alongside most often.

Tiren - When Tiren came to the clan seeking a home and family free of judgement, Tobias welcomed him in as an adopted son of sorts. During the uprising against the forgemasters and the mass movement of Fire Dragons to the new island in Bounty of the Elements, Tiren and his companion Matt joined the ranks, subsequently leaving the clan with two less dragons to complete their duties. Tobias pleaded with Tiren to return, and when he refused, the two got into an argument over what was more important- clan, or Flight. The two were only able to resolve their differences after Tiren saved Tobias' life in a fight during a visit back home. Tobias currently serves as a father figure and Tiren's chief Advisor and mentor.

- Hatchling Biography
Tobias was born to a small troupe of Guardian dragons residing in the Starfall Isles, and growing up in the Arcane Flight left a massive impact on him. His younger self believed in the good of the Arcanist, and viewed the god's folly as an attempt at progress- and thus forgiveable. When not listening to the stories of his clan elders, he was often found wandering off alone to look for his charge. He did not have many friends; being the largest of all the hatchlings in his little clan despite the youngest, as well as an only child. He was clumsy and found no interest in fighting like his peers, leading to many disagreements that ultimately caused him to seek solitude.

- Adolescent Biography
Tobias grew ever more restless and curious with age, and in his adolescence he again found his attention focused more on the stars and on discovery than on his social status. He cast aside his peers and their attempts at nobility, athletic feats, and wooing other dragons and began to spend most of his time studying at night, and sleeping during the day. This led to a mixed reaction from his elders, with some believing he was troubled, and others believing he was lazy. All in all, the takeaway by others was that he was "strange," and Tobias saw any attempt at friendship as manipulation. He began to outright state that he preferred his pet projects over the companionship of others, and this only decreased his popularity.

- Adult Biography
Despite his rockier start with others in his earlier life, when Tobias reached adulthood the need to find his charge seized him so wholeheartedly that he found it nearly impossible to sleep or relax, and would often forego caring for himself in favor of going on long hikes around the Isles, each longer than the last. His clan saw less and less of him, and while Tobias left his mark on strangers as being "the weird one," he began to make some acquaintances outside of his clan. One of these acquaintances happened to be a very pretty Fae with an impressive grasp on language and magic, despite being just about Tobias' age.

Tobias and Ahlea fell in love and, believing her to be his charge, Tobias officially left his clan and started a lair of his own with Ahlea, and soon the two had a sizeable clan between them, as their nests began to hatch inquisitive warriors and bold magicians. Like their parents, Tobias and Ahlea's children were ambitious, and when their first son chose to leave to serve the Arcanist, the other hatchlings began to follow suit, leaving Tobias and Ahlea rather alone.

Though peaceful, the time spent thinking led Tobias' mate to desire to serve a higher cause, and soon she, too, left to serve the Arcanist. Now alone with only a few children and stragglers who had come to the clan for hospitality in exchange for work, Tobias began to feel stricken again with the restlessness and dissatisfaction he'd felt before meeting Ahlea, and with his responsibilities to his clan stopping him from wandering, he gradually grew very ill, weak of limb and low on energy.

Though his clan attempted to help, Tobias would have no relief, and after a particularly cold and wet season, he contracted a new symptom in the form of a horrible infection in his lungs that would not let up. Unable to move more than a few steps, Tobias began to waste away, and his clan began to travel at every opportunity they could find, searching for something that could possibly save their leader- and luckily, salvation came in the form of a Skydancer scholar from the Windswept Plateau.

The Skydancer, Matiron, suggested the clan migrate to the Ashfall Waste, in the hopes that the heat would burn up the illness that had taken control of Tobias' body, and with his help, the dragons were convinced to make the journey. Tobias, weak though he was, miraculously swap from the Starfall Isles to the mainlaind of Sornieth with the help of his Guardians, and from there, he walked slowly and dutifully across the lands, until he reached the outskirts of the Ashfall Waste, and collapsed in the first shallow scrape he found.

Tobias awoke to find his Guardians using their massive wings and shoulders to carve out a lair for the clan to reside in, and it was there he recovered, with Matiron tending to him and seeing to the clan's organization when Tobias was still too weak to lead.

Matiron's theories proved to be correct, and Tobias' illness began to clear up. Though he was still weak, he began to lead the clan further and further into the heart of the fiery lands, and one day, woke up feeling almost like himself again- as if his brush with death had never happened. Tobias again took over to lead, though when he thanked Matiron with a grand feast and gifts from the clan, fully intending to let the Skydancer return home, he was surprised to find the old dragon desired to stay, and Tobias began to rebuild his clan in earnest alongside Matiron, taking a new mate in the form of his general, a Guardian named Jasper, and producing heirs, as well as taking in those from the surrounding lands who had no home or family to call their own.

After a time of prosperity and success in battle and clan alike, Tobias would again be thrown for a loop by the return of his former mate, Ahlea. Her return caused tension in Tobias' relationships, and ultimately, she and Tobias resumed a strained relationship.

-Bounty of the Elements

Tobias joined the search for the Tidelord the moment he heard of the deity’s disappearance, but otherwise desired to stay out of whatever was happening around Sornieth. He allowed Gaolers into the clan out of hospitality, but when Tiren left the clan to join Por and her dragons, Tobias felt himself shaken. Tiren’s apparent abandonment of the clan for a strange power surge led to a rift in their relationship.
