Grapes and Rat hailed from the same tiny Arcane outpost, but only met as young adults, when they quickly struck it off over a shared interest in alchemy. Grapes had studied it her whole life, but her future husband’s lack of alchemical knowledge was matched only by his enthusiasm to learn, and Grapes was all too happy to teach him. Years passed, and eventually the capitalist pull of hey, free gold! began to wear off and replace itself with scientific curiosity— while gold would certainly be neat, a dragon doesn’t really need much of it, as long as they can hunt for themselves, and the duo were happy to lose themselves in their studies as devotees to the Arcanist.

Eventually, Grapes would propose to Rat, and they had a small wedding, chose their new names, and decided to find their own place in the Starfall Isles. Wandering the Starwood Strand, they acquaintanced themselves with a small group of dragons living there, and decided to settle down. They became close friends with the nice folks, in particular Demontooth and Irn, once he joined. Demontooth had cool pet snakes, and was happy to give them shed samples and animals she caught for their studies, and Irn seemed to know a bit about occultism and occasionally helped them with their theories. Both of them just thought the alchemists were cool to talk to, constantly embroiled in new projects.
