Emerald

Emerald was a striking hatchling a beautiful green the patterning along his body caught the sun in just the right way so that when he first opened his eyes to his new doting parents and glowed like a gem in the light of the rising sun. Then his eye's focused for the first time he blinked them out of sync for a few moments then his eyes trained themselves on his father's tail flicking behind him and shrieked lunging for it. That was the first and last time his parents got to see a bright look in his eyes.

After that it seemed that he always had a mean glint in his eye and wild look about him, he tried to try to attack random objects, dragons, and even his own shadow. His occasional swipes and lunges at nothing would always catch the eye of strangers. The hard stares he gives to the flickering light of a candle or the slightest movement of a branch as if it was an unknown enemy ready to pounce once his back was turned. It was a hard and scary childhood and he was no fan of it.

A long childhood turned into some longer teenage years. Emerald often found himself stumbling about the lair in a hormonal daze the room spinning around him with new scents being smelled and his eyes picking up new things about his fellow clan mates; or much to his parent's dismay what he didn't notice about his clan mates, as much as they pushed him to seek out compainionship with any other mirror in their pack nothing seemed to click. As time wore on the family's pack members couldny keep turning a blind eye to the occasional pounce. And they were expelled from their pack post haste.

Now stuck with his parents full time they were pretty much bound to the more well traveled paths and with that they became simple scavengers and traders. While his parent's were more than a bit put out by the fact that their extended family had kicked them out for having a mildly weird son Emerald's mood was on the rise with every stop at Spire City. When asked about his mood shift he simply would give them an odd look and rush off. They supposed he was shy or embarrassed about his behavior and carried on trying to find him the one, as they traveled now more than ever determined to form a new pack.




While his parents were becoming frustrated with his lack of trying to find a partner they applauded him for making a single friend, for a half minute. Before they discovered he had decided to hang out with literally the only dragon in all of Sornieth more off their rocker than him. A bouncy spiral with more energy and enthusiasm than everyone in the clan combined.

Not that Emerald had any choice in the matter. Nobody? Refract? Whatever they were calling themselves today. They could never take the hint that maybe he was a little unhinged. That he had a few screws up in his head loose. That he was bound to take a swipe so please be careful I wouldn't know what to do without you. Refract can seemingly tell when the shadows grow too long or when the light flickers a bit too suspiciously or if a ripple of clothing looks a tad too threatening. A soothing word or a gentle pat is all it takes for the rough and twitchy exterior to disintegrate.

Every scrap Emerald tosses himself into Refract is not far behind ready to help him bandage his wounds or occasionally take a swipe out of the poor ******* themself. When Refract tosses themself into tizzy Emerald is there to be something to hold onto.

Even if they're a bit tight-lipped about it Emeralds whole world is Refract and Refracts whole world is Emerald and absolutely nothing can change that.
