Why the name 'Emma'?
Emma's name is based of a minor female role in the Mortal Instruments series. In the series, Emma Carstairs doesn't come in till the sixth book, City of Heavenly Fire. Emma ends up becoming very close to Clary for various reason. When the world is plunged into being attacked by demons and Dark Shadowhunters, this girl is pushed into questioning and interrogation by the Consul along with her best friends and his family. In a fit of anger at making innocent children bear a heavy, painful burden of holding the Mortal Sword by the Clave, Emma storms out of the room to be alone. Clary has been interested in the young girl from the moment she saw her. They both had the same attitude. They were one in the same. So, when Emma flees from the room, Clary is right behind her. They end up becoming close friends because they understand each other. Jace comes into the room to get Clary. Jace is Emma's ultimate role model. When the younger girl finds out that Jace and Clary are dating, they both end up becoming her role models.
Emma the Coatl is the daughter of the coatls Jace and Clary. While the book Emma is not the daughter of the book Jace and Clary, I thought that it fits since the young girl ends up becoming close to her role models in a time of hurt and seemingly hopelessness.
